No doubt, with apartments renting at 1000 and houses renting at 1700 a month, families stick together.

Working or non working, no one can pay those rents, live with any dignity, eat well, pay their bills or have the hope of saving up for even a fifth wheel to live in let alone land of their own.

Until people start to oppose these trends and demand price control like Norway, and have land and homes for all and all necessities kept low, rent/mortgage payments coupled with utility bill should not be more than 1/4 your income.

Oh, forgot, Fortis Electric and Fortis Gas, here in the interior of BC charges payments of between 400-600 a month for utilities in Canada.

Unbelievable what our governments are doing!

I agree with your overall feeling but I think rent control is the wrong way to go about this except in very rare situations where there is observed to be a monopoly or cartel among rental owners because rent control has a long track record of only creating its own set of problems. To attack the problem at the root would be to simply increase the supply of housing. The battleground on which to fight for this is in reform of local zoning ordinances. Most zoning, at least in my area, is so restrictive that it artificially limits the amount of housing available. Of course most property owners would likely hate this, but they would hate rent control too.

Whats funny is when I got out of college in the 90's I lived with my parents and so did most of my friends. Many act like this is some new phenom. I recall lots people living at home into their late 20's. The only thing different is millennials have an outlet to whine about everything.

We need to fix essential prices.

This is a monied world, I prefer Venus Project style.

The reason that Norway had the highest standard of living is this:

their basic taxes were like ours, except for sales tax. but as that is mainly on luxury items, people who wanted them paid that tax.

they control their essential prices of rent/ownership and utilities plus food.

The reports on that country were that after tax dollar they had more money to spend in their towns and economies, ie more local businesses and crafters were frequented.

The economy flourishes!

Easy answer-

the illegals and section 8'ers have the monopoly on any lower-income apartments available.

Try driving past your local "hood" and see the racial makeup.

Then they have the nerve to charge YOU (having a job) $1000 a month for the exact same shitty 1 bedroom apartment where your neighbor only pays $50 a month and has 4 kids and 4 "roommates" living with her and none of them speak english and run up the common water bills....

The only way one can get an apartment in a decent hood is to pay well over $1,200 a month- and $1200x 36= $43,200 MINIMUM INCOME to get in. If you tried at the local "rent restricted" based on your lower income you get wait-listed for YEARS while Paco and his wife, 4 kids, and 10 roommates get to move in immediately...

Excellent yardstick to measure the destruction of the middle class. I'm in my 40s and living at home. It's the only financial arrangement I can manage right now.

I'm an unemployed mellinial looking for work and my baby boomer parents moved me out and into an apartment and are paying $1,400 a month so I don't have to live under their roof. Pretty rediculous but I ain't complaining!

Yup, I'm living with my folks at 33. I'm just trying to save money so I can maybe buy a house at some point. I pay rent so it isn't a free ride, but it's cheaper than what a typical apartment goes for.

And most of them are communists.

In many Cultures kids live at home until they get married.
They didn't specifically say white westerners.
Considering Western countries are now Multicultural,it isn't that surprising.

I'd say there are more whites out of their mothers basements than other cultures as many live defacto, share with friends etc which is frowned on many cultures.
