"there is a number out there, a real number... the number of heart beats you get. Most people get the same amount give or take, but the length of their life depends on how fast they beat those heart beats away. faster heart rate, shorter life, slower heart rate, longer life" One of the biggest concert promoters of the 80's and 90's, Dave Williams of Cellar Door, told me the same thing.

digestion is the same. there is a number of pounds of food your body will digest in your life. the number is about the same for everyone. you eat more, you burn out your digestion allowance faster

and the ego is so closely related to eating also

everyone these days eats out of boredom, or to feed their false sense of self

i think anyone that was truly living from outide of ego , awareness or spirit, probably would not be that bothered about eating anyway

"Once King Pasenadi came to the Buddha bloated and breathing in a laboured manner as a result of having eaten yet another enormous meal. Seeing this the Buddha said: `When a person is mindful and thus knows moderation in eating, his ailments diminish, he ages gently and he protects his life.'
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72269884

I agree with this all, I was vegetarian for years, been a vegan for 1, but have really started to see the benefits of my diet recently since lowering my food intake. Like why feed the toilet just as much as you feed your face?? That toilet could be another persons mouth.

There is absolutely something to this. Eat light breakfast and lunch and you find you are much more productive through the day. Eat a heavy lunch, and take a nap.

Too much food is hard on the bod.

I don't eat every day anymore, hardly any hot meals, just small healthy snacks. Was just under 11 stone, but back up to 12 stone now. I feel more spiritual, tho' not happier.. as such.. as an occasional hug would lift my spirits up.

Re: less food = higher state of consciousness
I see it as a man has two glasses…. a "physical" glass, and a "spiritual" glass. They are inversely related, meaning that when the "physical" glass is full, by default the "spiritual" glass is empty, and vice versa…. thus FASTING helps you to get to a place where you can sense the spiritual in a heightened state. It is biblical, and applies to many religions. Today people do nothing but indulge their flesh… so the western man wouldn't know anything about it… always feeding the flesh…. God says to seek Him and stop living for your carnal desires… food, sex, lust, etc…. Try it out!! and thanks for reminding me too.

has anyone heard the idea that eating less is the way to the higher states of consciousness? eating lighter = lighter state of being. i read through this book earlier today and really got me thinking that this might be the answer. [link to breatharian.info]

Re: less food = higher state of consciousness
I can see some truth in this.I myself only usually eat once a day with maybe a snack.I eat dinner mainly. No breakfast and no lunch mostly.Breakfast of any kind upsets my stomach.I noticed at an early age that when I eat 3 meals I feel sluggish and wore out.
More than that tho Even when I only eat once a day i sometimes feel that way.Im a Taurus and Im constantly thinking about stuff.I used to worry about everything.I've learned that when i did that I never had any energy no matter what I ate.I would wake up tired.Gor the past few years Ive changed how I react to things Ive always been a mellow easy going type It take a whole lot to get me fired up.But if I do get to that lvl its bad news.So I try to think ahead and about things before I act. This caused alot of over thinking and worry. It would cause low energy and bad headaches. Now that I dont worry as much I have tons of energy and hardly any headaches.

everyone is different and everyone needs different things. because your best friend is a vegan does not mean it would work for you. because your neighbor can drink soda and beer and doesnt look bloated and fat doesnt mean you can follow that route.

through a lot of self-testing i can attest that i found a formula that works really well for me.

funny that today is the end of week one health rebooting for me and i see a couple posts on fasting. i watched the video on the other post about a higher mental clarity from fasting. my personal experience has found this but i only had ideas why; now i can look into medical research a little farther.

what happens with me? well, i drop all food for about two days. i crash pretty hard. i do take in vitamins and minerals, amino acids and fatty acids, but only through supplements. plus, when i do this, it is incremental as i head to day three.

when i get to day three, i find that i can retain information or study something INTENSELY.

day 4: i start adding caloric needs back. maybe three hundred calories for the day. day 5: increase. day 6: increase.

my goal is always the same, increase natural whole foods until i get to my desired fat:carbs:protein amounts. the ratio is also balanced so that i have certain things during certain parts of the day.

so i am a week into my reboot and i can say that a 1g protein per kg of body mass works well with me. as of being 2.5 hrs into my day, i have 50% protein done. most carbs in the form of (sugar) are done and the added sugar is at 15g, well below the ~30g/day recommended. also, i have 35% of my potassium in. considering that the recommended daily amount of potassium is 4800mg... well i like that.

their is a personal science to diet and lifestyle. some people are lucky and just have it. others seem to struggle. i had to learn and experiment. it took a lot of dark days to get to where i am at. but i can say one thing, what i do works, and it shows.

Unless you're born with a birth defect mutating your genes, we're designed to eat whatever we want whenever we want and the body will assimilate only what it needs and discards the rest.

My body maintains a perfect body weight regardless of diet.

Some people that would do the same as me would have diabetes and be morbidly obese by the time I finish this post.

Best example is looking at nature that aren't exposed to gene mutating human concoctions.

You'll never see a fat bird is what I'm saying. Do birds write a lengthy paper about personal consumption based on scientific knowledge? No. They eat what they want when they want.

Unfortunately the majority of society has shifty genes and no diet or any consideration will help them.

... like i said ... everyone is different and has different needs. pretty simple starting statement. here is another, if you are happy and what you are doing works for you, great, but it does not mean that it will work for me.

take one thing: the sun, vitamin d and related health issues. people in the north have a higher deficiency, hence more supplemental or dietary requirement for that.

ever heard of prenatal vitamins? do your birds use those?

science is science and it is why we dont die from an accident at age 25-30 and seem to be living longer and longer.

have a great day.

another way to view it is do you stop and fuel up at the gas station twice before getting home on a single commute?

Re: less food = higher state of consciousness
I agree with the OP on this thread. For along time I used to schedule my meals. I would eat 2500-3000 calories between the hours of 12 pm to 8pm and then fast until the next 12pm next day. Pretty much a 8 hour window to eat and then 16 hrs of fasting. Felt great doing this.

I would also every couple weeks schedule a 24 hr fast. During these fast I would workout. My workouts during this period were amazing every time. I felt stronger, faster and overall had much more energy.

I suggest everyone, especially those who struggle to lose weight, to take a serious look into Intermittent fasting. It changed my life for the better.

junk food is a lot like smoking. ask any smoker who has quit after 3 or 4 months, if they like smoking when they try again, you hate it and so does the body / mind. its not the same anymore. its exactly the same with junk food and anyione thats fasted for a week or more
