Psychology is too broad a subject and every single one of us can fit neatly into a black and white box according to the DSM. I loathe the subject of psychology. I agree,it can be pretty lucrative (pretending) to be mentally ill. Get on PWD and your set,free meds, cheap nice secure places to live,furniture bought for you,yearly bus passes handed out,work part-time make a few bucks on the side, up here you can even get a free car,the amount of resources and programs here is unbelievable, you would be shocked.

Many cases I have seen are like this. They work their way through social security and when approved they then appear to not have the same aggressive symptoms anymore. Makes you wonder. On the other hand, there are people who do need help.

I'd like to discuss this more in depth, but I have some self serving clients to see in the morning. While there are those who may work the system, the word "most" is a level of cynicism that probably inhibits your ability to help individuals. Today's world is incredibly fucked up, to put it in the most clinical of terms, and people increasingly don't have the proper tools to cope.

I'm not quite sure what you mean... are you saying that majority of mental illness is just people inventing reasons to gain whatever they want whether it be physical, emotional or mental?

Because as someone who was diagnosed with schizophrenia, I can tell you that I was completely convinced that everything I thought was true and it had nothing to do with a large ego, I actually lost my ego. I had nothing to act as a barrier and prevent me from believing in everything I heard, the only reason I wouldn't listen to other people is because I already fell for the idea that those people were against me first. I can tell you as a fact that it had nothing to do with gaining anything and on the contrary I lost most of my friends, damaged relationships with family, gained nothing physical or of monetary value, and actually lost things emotionally as far as ruining my relationship with someone I loved.

The only thing I gained was on the mental side of things and that was an awakening of consciousness which is what I believe a good portion of mental illness is. With all the negative forces(demons, psychic vampires, negative frequencies everywhere, basically whatever you believe to cause negative spiritual experiences which I personally believe is a combination of many things together) the awakening of consciousness becomes something dangerous instead of something purely spiritual and causes confusion majority of the time instead of pure insight.

It's something you need to go through to understand, and to come up with a hypothesis like yours is actually kind of arrogant to think that just because you've been around someone with mental illness that you can understand it.

It's like saying just because you met God that suddenly you understand God. And even if you believe that everyone is God which I think is very possible, you still can't say you understand the concept of God when you are not currently in the state of being God.

Mentally ill people are the most selfish self serving self cwntered assholes out there.

They put themselves and their "voices" above everything and everyone including family.

They dont give a flying fuck who they hurt or how they hurt them so long as THEIR precious fucking needs are pandered to and slobbered over first.

I lived with one of these self serving fucks.

He detroyed my tv cause he said it had demons in it...he detroyed some special ornaments that my young daughters made for me cause the voices told him they were evil (they were lovehearts made from pipe cleaners) and he used to visit male prostitutes cause the voices told him too.

He didnt give a single fuck about the pain he caused others.

None of them do.

All they give a shit about is themselves.

I think it really stems from our institutionalized education, where when we graduate high school, we are taught that there is nothing else to learn, we think we know everything, then we celebrate and its a huge thing. I mean graduating is a big thing in america, anyways

so as we move on in life we find out we dont know shit, and basically we start first grade over, re- learning a more real reality- we get burnt out, re-jected, challenges that we arent ready for, every day shit that we never encountered in our well protected little institutionalized world.

We need an exchuse why we dont have it figured out, why we cant meet lifes challenges, so we need the excuse of mental illness.

All it is a matter of finding the tools in ones community to grow, accept/embrace humility/ smile at your im perfectness- cause were all in the same boat, and find creative ways to meet your challenges

most of these illness are very dangerous when living in denial for many , many years. its important to realize this young and fixx yourself, before you really add alot of baggage to yourself.

The danger in discussions like this would be people who are uneducated in the area of mental health can latch on to a thread/theory like this and use it against others... for instance: The daughter-in-law they secretly hate. "Hon, come read this. This person is a professional and they believe mental illness is over prevalent. I knew it! That wife our son married! She's just acting out and pretending for attention or personal gain!"
