That being said, if you're worried about that sort of thing, take a look at the 2013 Einstein ban proposal and the list of firearms that were exempt. To save you some trouble, off the top of my head, the Mini-14/30s in the non-tacticool stock, SKS rifles, M1 Garands, M1 Carbines, Ruger PC9s and PC40s, and Marlin Camp Carbines all would have survived the ban. The Minis and SKS are your best bets, being commonly available and firing cheap, low recoiling ammunition with decent effective range. If you want to be almost totally ban proof, consider taking a very long look at a Ruger GP-100 or Smith and Wesson 686 with a 4+" barrel as a handgun, with a good used lever action 30-30 as a rifle. You'll also want to add a cheap, decent 22 rifle to compliment whatever you choose (that 10/22 recommendation is a good one). This type of setup is not fancy, its not tactical, but you can get by with it in all but the absolute worst case scenario. |
