Deadly Tick Bite causing meat allergy
I can't help but wonder if this was engineered?

"Tick Bites and Mammalian Meat Allergy

Australian allergic diseases physicians first described an association between tick bites and the development of mammalian meat allergy and these findings have since been confirmed by researchers in the USA and in Europe. A subgroup of these patients will also be allergic to mammalian milks and animal-derived gelatin (present in some food products, as a binding agent in some medications as well as in intravenous blood substitutes known as gelatin colloid (e.g. Haemaccel®, Gelofusine®).

The target allergen associated with these allergic reactions appears to be a sugar molecule known as alpha-galactose, present in the gut of ticks (and probably tick saliva) and all mammalian meats except for humans, great apes and Old World monkeys (e.g. beef, pork, lamb, kangaroo, venison, buffalo) and some more exotic meats eaten in some countries (e.g. guinea pig) in South America and ethnic specialty restaurants in North America and even Australia; and probably even whale meat (e.g. in Japan) as well as gelatin.

Researchers have identified that the following blood allergy tests are positive in the majority of those with serious allergic reactions to mammalian meat, and that testing (which can be ordered by any doctor) may assist in confirming the diagnosis:

Beef, lamb, pork Immunocap®.
Alpha-galactose Immunocap® a sugar molecule present in mammalian meats (but not in humans, great apes or Old World monkeys), as well as the gut of ticks.
Elevation of tryptase (an enzyme that is increased in those with a condition called mastocytosis, which is associated with an increased risk and severity of allergic reactions to a number of allergic and non-allergic triggers including insect stings and tick bites).

By contrast, blood allergy testing to gelatin is usually negative (even in patients who have had clear allergic reactions to gelatin orally or by injection).
In contrast, skin allergy testing to commercially available mammalian meats is much less reliable unless performed with raw, organic mammalian meats for confirmation (and very occasionally, even using raw meats, the diagnosis may not be confirmed). Gelatin skin testing results are highly variable, with often minor reactions on skin prick testing with gelatin, whilst intradermal injection skin testing is more reliable in diagnosing gelatin allergy.

Those with allergic reactions to mammalian meats are best advised to avoid all mammalian meats (beef, lamb/mutton, pork, goat, horse meat, kangaroo, venison and probably other more exotic mammals) and artificial blood (made from beef) as well as all forms of gelatin and to wear a medical bracelet warning of potential allergy to intravenous gelatin colloid (an intravenous preparation used as a blood substitute) as well."

Further advice on dietary avoidance strategies and tick-induced allergies may be found on the TiARA website.

Tick-induced allergies: mammalian meat allergy, tick anaphylaxis and their significance

Serious tick-induced allergies comprise mammalian meat allergy following tick bites and tick anaphylaxis.

Mammalian meat allergy is an emergent allergy, increasingly prevalent in tick-endemic areas of Australia and the United States, occurring worldwide where ticks are endemic. Sensitisation to galactose-α-1,3-galactose (α-Gal) has been shown to be the mechanism of allergic

[/b]reaction in mammalian meat allergy following tick bite.

Cases of mammalian meat allergy after tick bite have now been reported from Australia,

North America, Europe, Asia, Central America, and Africa.

As ticks are widely distributed around the world it is not surprising that mammalian meat allergy after tick bites has been reported in several countries other than Australia and the US.

Australians on the east coast are suddenly becoming deathly allergic to red meat

"NICOLE Lenoir-Jourdan is a vegetarian, so having an allergy to meat was the last thing she expected.

But the Pymble publicist knew something was very wrong. She was having allergic reactions to food she’d never had a problem with, like yoghurt, baked beans, and nuts. A few months before she’d been bitten by a tiny tick in her garden and had an extreme local reaction.

‘‘I tell you, I looked like the elephant man,” she says. “My whole head swelled up. It was not normal. I went to a number of doctors and they all went, ‘Oh yeah, you’ll be alright’.’’

None mentioned that a severe local reaction to a tick was a risk factor for developing mammalian meat allergy (MMA),

an emerging allergy where the tick’s saliva changes a person’s immune system to start reacting to the meat of mammals — beef, pork, lamb and sometimes even dairy and gelatine.

What Lenoir-Jourdan eventually discovered was that she’d acquired mammalian meat allergy from the tick bite, and she was in the 10 per cent of those who are also allergic to mammalian meat derivatives, like dairy and gelatine.

“I found out that all the foods that were making me sick were either dairy or had meat derivatives in them. The nuts I was eating came from China, where they spray nuts with meat flavouring,” she says.

Normally, humans aren’t affected by a bite from Ixodes holocyclus – better known as the paralysis tick. But in some cases, it can trigger a dangerous and rare allergy to red meat.

Thanks to the common paralysis tick, also known as Ixodes holocyclus, more than 800 people around Sydney’s northern beaches have developed a dangerous and otherwise extremely rare allergy to mammalian meat.

Re: Deadly Tick Bite causing meat allergy
The paralysis tick earned its name and reputation because of the often-fatal effect its bite has on domestic pets.

Most humans don’t suffer any particular ill-effects from an Ixodes holocyclus bite.

But in some people, the combination of tick proteins and a mammalian protein, injected in the tick’s saliva as it bites for a blood meal, are enough to trigger a potentially life-threatening allergy.

Great, now they are gonna put that stuff in vaccines and everybody becomes a vegetarian.

Would save a lot of food, water and energy...makes sense.

I have this allergy, which I believe is due to the bite of a lone star tick.

This is actually more prevalent in the US with the Lone Star tick. Been going on for many many years.

Re: Deadly Tick Bite causing meat allergy
I was bit by a lone star tick two years ago. Absolutely horrible. Thought I was gonna die. When I realized I wasn't, I began hoping I would. I lost over 40 pounds in two weeks. Only thing that saved me was drinking over a gallon of colloidal silver I brewed Took two months before I could look at food. Felt like I had anorexia. The thought of eating was repulsive. And I was as weak as a kitten for about 4 months. My only lingering side effects are tinnitus and occasional numbness in extremities. I was lucky. Two guys died from it the same time I was stricken. Horrible experience

Re: Deadly Tick Bite causing meat allergy
How very interesting. I read about this the other day while researching allergies to beef and milk. I've always thought I was lactose intolerant. I cannot have anything from a cow however. No dairy no beef. I'm also allergic to penicillin which cows are given. If I even have any little bit of beef/milk I get serious diarrhea and a rash. I don't remember ever being bitten by a tick. Maybe I should see an allergist.
