Gold (and silver) will enable those in a time of crisis when Uncle Samuel Bogus Bucks have no value to buy other food as well as a whole host of necessities such as generators for power as one example. Guns and ammo only potentially enable its owners to hold onto what they have or "acquire" by force what they need. If the latter, good luck with that as other people have firearms too including those holding precious metals.
