Remember the MRAP in my neighborhood, why does Dallas PD SWAT vehicle look so small?
So I've been thinking....3 days now. Remember my thread with the neighbors getting busted next door and the size of that MRAP rolling in front of my Ford Expedition with standard 18's.

Then I see all these pics of the Dallas Swat vehicles and I'm like, WTH is that little thing. Damn, it looks like my car raised, extra metal & bullet proof glass...and that's it....

Compared to the MRAP in my hood, that thing was as tall if not taller than the first eve of the house.

So I'm wondering, since I 100% know that it isn't Garlands swat MRAP, why wasn't this utilized in Dallas. It went on from 9pm to at least 330am. Plenty of time to get geared up.

Also, why wouldn't the state police (which is actually just made up of Texas Rangers, Tx DPS & 1 other agency, I think TX Marshalls) come in to assist? DPS was already assisting DPD for the last 4 months when they requested help because of the crime rate doubling. Plenty of articles discussing their help needed. And with the pics in that other thread via imgur, GLP discovered US State Dept Diplomatic Security Service was there. Something I didn't notice because I just saw the giant Federal Agent letters.

Seriously, if you saw the 12 army looking men dressed in camo fatigues, helmets, assault rifles, running in succession down the side of my house on my lawn, very coordinated, you'd be wondering the same thing. I never saw those men never came back out to the front of the house so I do not know what vehicle they left in. Had to be in the alley, which we have rear entry garages.

Am I just over thinking this?

Don't bag on me for my film shakiness, I didn't know whether to get out and go inside or sit there and not move.

Here was the thread

Thread: Damn State Police just busted down neighbors door!

The MRAP is a purpose built vehicle designed for the military to resist the explosive force of an IED.

It was designed taller, with a V shaped floor to deflect the blast away from the occupants when facing an explosive buried under the road.

Most traditional SWAT vehicles are built on civillian truck frames, mainly with armor to protect only against rifle rounds fired at the sides or roof of the vehicle, and may not even have armor underneath.

As I have read recently, the Obama administration has taken back all the MRAP vehicles sold to police departments.

That black sheriff (forgot his name) who is always on FOX was talking about that a few days ago too.

So why didn't they use this, it's in town, less than 12 miles away. Didn't he say he planted IEDs and bombs all over?

It was less than a week ago.
In fact I believe it was after the Dallas incident.

It might have been on FOX Business / Lou Dobbs show.
Not 100% about that though.
Only other possibility is on Hannity.

Here's a recent interview.

2 completely different vehickes. DPD has 2 armored vehicles (smaller ones) and if memory is correct the also got 2 MRAPs a few years ago. MRAPs are from recent military surplus that was specifically built to withstand mines. Hence the height on the MRAPs and the "V shaped" bottom...help deflect mine blast.

Hold on, let me check something

Re: Remember the MRAP in my neighborhood, why does Dallas PD SWAT vehicle look so small?
OP, as others have stated, an MRAP is a very specific vehicle. It isn't a catch all for any armored vehicle. I just glanced at your vid, and that doesn't look like an actual MRAP. They are HUGE. [link to image.trucktrend.com]

Armored vehicles are made in all sizes. Some are just armor on a ford truck chassis. Some are purpose built like Bearcats: [link to i.wheelsage.org]

Actual MRAPs are overkill for any Police department. They're also expensive as hell to maintain and break down frequently. They get them for free, or damned near it, and think it's a great idea. Things like Bearcats cost out of the eyes. So, a lot of departments (who have actual common sense) don't want the expense of an MRAP, but can't afford a bearcat, so they'll nab whatever armored truck they come across. Of which, there are many.

List the military equipment going to each county (could be either DPD or Dallas Co Sheriff).

2014 Dallas country received 2 MRAPs. They also got 1 armored truck, 1 helicoptor, and wait for it... 100 bomb robots!!

Sort by value and the everything should be on 1st page

Not bomb disarming robots, but robots that creep up on people and detonate to kill.

Gives a whole new meaning to the term "Bomb Squad". Now you can just all it the " Bombing Squad"!

Maybe, but they also have a wider jurisdiction than just that.

Haven't seen any local media links from OP's original thread so we just have video.
