The Dark Tower released this year is full of symbolism.

Children with shine (psychic abilities) are kidnapped by "skins" (aliens) and sent to another world to be used in a universe-ending weapon. The weapon focuses their powers unwillingly to target the tower at the center of the universe which keeps demons and other monsters out of the universe. The movie describes the universe as a circle with demons and monsters outside of the circle trying to get in.

Jake resides on Keystone Earth and has a shine unlike any other. He is a double-edged sword. His power, if used by the weapon, is strong enough to destroy the tower and the universe. On the other hand, he's the key to enabling Roland (a gunslinger wielding guns forged from the steel of Excalibur - an Arthurian reference) to kill Walter, the Man in Black who is trying to destroy the tower.

When Jake is captured and hooked up to the weapon, he resists causing the weapon to not work. Walter taunts him, making Jake rage about Walter murdering his mother, which makes the weapon start working.

The movie seems to be saying that when Jake (YKW) rages, the apocalypse and destruction of everything continues on schedule. Before his capture, his raging also caused his psychic powers to activate, which allows Walter to track him (Enochian hidden Son of Man).

Earlier in the movie, Jake is betrayed by his mother who tries to send him to an insane asylum because of the visions he's been having. The skins were running the insane asylum, using it to capture the children with shine. The movie seems to be saying that the psych wards on the earth are used as monitoring facilities for individuals of a certain kind.

Also, when the weapon in the other world starts destroying the tower, the sky above NYC begins to turn red. There was a similarity between that scene and the red sky in the Sports Illustrated image with the Astros and Dodgers.

Your point on an old structure being taken down for the new reminds me of Enoch's animal apocalypse again. The immediate verses after the judgement of the 70 shepherds after 70 generations (right after Israel's 70th anniversary) are as follows:

I wonder if the two houses in Enoch are talking about the silver and golden gates. The old one is taken down and moved to the south, the new is put in its place making it the northern gate. The two gates sit at opposite ends of the heavens.

The moon will be at the silver gate, opposite Saturn, on Monday morning. The sun will be at the Golden Gate December 18, and will meet Saturn adjunct to the Golden Gate on the solstice.
