A-10 Warthog? | |

Freaking beast of a plane, the thing is a gun with a jet built around it. Basically a flying gas tank with cannon, and an armored cockpit. Quoting: ZeroFox 71728046 [link to www.popularmechanics.com] Thanks for the info; yep it's a beast, knew they were different as soon as I heard them...It's great to see them at such low altitude. You should hear them firing! Sounds like a pneumatic lug wrench... so fast |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 69456438 United States 10/15/2017 01:35 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | IMO this and the P-38 (designed by the US Army) are two of the most aesthetically pleasing planes because they WERE designed from a utilitarian perspective. Both are pure gunner airplanes with guns right in the nose, not on the wings or off the body. One is amazingly slow the other far too pfast at the time for air combat against slower planes. But to look at, the warthog is just hands down bad ass. It's like "Engines? Oh yeah we got htose sticking out like pods, works great!" ...Do not forget this lok was copied by Anakin on his pod racer and also that he is Darth Vader, eventually. So fuck yeah let's keep the A 10 as long as the nemy builds tanks, but please do not put pilots in too much harms way without good teams to recover them. Not like Blackhawk Down please where we lose Delta guys trying to recover the man. Glory is fine but recovering pilots is hell. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 69456438 United States 10/15/2017 02:07 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | And not one comment on DU ammunition? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75700905 Just pray that one doesn't crash near you or your city. Thanbks buddy, let's discuss it. I have mentioned DU rounds a lot on GLP in my work and so let's discuss that. It's about metal and hardness and tanks, okay? War is made, by whom? Tanks are made by whom? In any case, if I am seeing a land where war upon the world is nurtured like Europe is with all its massive bolshevik lies facing down Hitler and SS lies, well, I will need the rights to end that war on their lands, and not have my lands disturbed. Okay? But yeah, if someone says "Hey, let's all use regular rounds in combat, and nuke anyone who uses DU round!: well, which is worse, nukes or DU. In that debate, some % would laugh at you and me, for even having an opinion on the matter. But yeah I agree with you: DU rounds over all, are worse than nukes. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 69456438 United States 10/15/2017 02:09 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The other thing to mention if one is to be honest with the world and with the room discussing here, is this: DU rounds come from nuke palnts, they are an offput, basically toxic waste. So, if that cartel, takes their garbage, and makes it "gold" for some warmongers, yeah that's fucked up. DU is stored in gaseous state, it's gaseous metal. It wouldn't have even been found if we'd not entered the nuclear age, which is what gives us trans-polar subs like Nautilus and such. So when you make the USS Nautilus in 1945 or whatever, you are casting a future where we in 2020 will have the dsillema of the trash that nuke production out off. But unti8l we discuss the truth about fukishima, and WW2, we will be thralls in this matter. Thralls of aviation and armor design. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 69456438 United States 10/15/2017 02:31 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yes it's a CAS plane which means Close Air Support, and this can mean smashing troops. like some 100k mohammedans forced to run toward their doom, and their destiny. Once their AA guns and missile pods (that some evil ally loaned to them), are obliterated and shot off, then yeah, roll out the A 10 and reap them like wheat for their god. The A 10 will deliver them to him in storehouses and sheaf. I mean honestly, let's say you have a machine gun nest on the ground, or, one ten times bigger flying 500 mph in the sky, uhm, yeah, not a hard choice there, General! |

Go to 4:40 in this video, you'll hear the rounds hit first, then the gun report then the A10's turbines. At 6:50 it gets closer When the A10 hits, the first clue is the rounds exploding all around....too late, lol Last Edited by -database- on 10/15/2017 02:53 PM Hesher was here! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 69456438 United States 10/15/2017 03:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Another gamey point to understand here is this pic [link to en.wikipedia.org (secure)] which shows the "shillelagh" missile, and we know tanks are just tractors with some turret. So what you fire and what you field, is all just relative. If your production capacity is roughened and stretched due to spies and saboteurs in your lands, you won't win shit but maybe will be made to see that as peace. I am saying production lines are everything as are cities to make weapons. How does one power city? Must not we sacrifice the young of all futures of Earth, to win the war now? Perhaps not. Bt the Sheridan and the AR platform BOTH were defeated by home-based dipshits who delivered fucked up powder in the cartridges for the guns. The Sheridan was a bad gun that should not have been fielded but the platform was fine. Arma 16, again a fine platform but they got ammo which jammed the rifle and good guys died. Do not waste a good soldier on some shitty macnamara ideas anymore. Put the people in charge, I'd allow every county in the USA to make their own A 10 squadrons. |

That would be a bit special; no chance of seeing any of these old birds around here unfortunately, but as you say maybe a wee trip to an airshow might be in order. Had a low flying Hercules fly over the house, 2 days on the trot, a couple of weeks ago; so low I could see the crew...that thing really needs a coat of paint or two. |
