We Just Found Life In Space - There's Just One Tiny Problem

"Bacteria… From the outside… Oooooo." Russian cosmonauts have discovered bacteria living on the outside of the International Space Station (ISS). Since the bacteria were not on the exterior hull when the habitable satellite was launched back in 1998, this is particularly odd

“It turns out that somehow these swabs reveal bacteria that were absent during the launch of the ISS module,” said Russian cosmonaut Anton Shkaplerov, according to the Russian news agency TASS, on Monday.

“That is, they have come from outer space and settled along the external surface. They are being studied so far and it seems that they pose no danger," he added.

t’s also worth remembering that temperatures fluctuate wildly on the space station. Temperatures on the ISS can vary between 121°C (250°F) on its sunny side and below -157°C (-250°F) on its dark side.

Scallops Have Over 200 Eyes That Work Like A High-Tech Telescope

"In some rare visual systems in nature, mirrors are used instead of lenses to produce images,” the study authors wrote. “A remarkable example of such an eye is found in the Pecten scallop, which possesses up to 200 minute eyes lining the mantle tissue.”

The eyes are made up of a multi-layered mosaic of tiny mirrors and square guanine crystals, a highly reflective material found in the natural world. After light enters through a poppy-seed-sized hole, the layers of this mosaic work together to reflect light off these concave mirrors onto the retina above.

"The mirror forms images on a double-layered retina, to separately image both peripheral and central fields of view," the researchers wrote.

Once the retina receives this information, the team believes the scallop’s nervous system (after all, they don’t actually have a proper brain) then processes the images from its 200 eyes into a single image. This helps the scallop perceive the world with a complex three-dimensional view of the world with millimeter precision. All those eyes also mean they can view a wider horizontal area to keep an eye out for predators.

The moral of the episode essentially was, that what goes up, goes down. And people that were your friends will ignore you due social pressure..

Never thought something like that could exist and be planned for in a country as massive as China.

Self interest is a powerful programming tool. The intellectual solvent.

I was told by another to watch that episode in particular.

It is essentially a way to create social outcasts. Those with the 'most points'...what would they be like?

Really scary.

Did some more research.

So just how are people rated? Individuals on Sesame Credit are measured by a score ranging between 350 and 950 points. Alibaba does not divulge the "complex algorithm" it uses to calculate the number but they do reveal the five factors taken into account. The first is credit history. For example, does the citizen pay their electricity or phone bill on time? Next is fulfilment capacity, which it defines in its guidelines as "a user's ability to fulfil his/her contract obligations". The third factor is personal characteristics, verifying personal information such as someone's mobile phone number and address. But the fourth category, behaviour and preference, is where it gets interesting.

Under this system, something as innocuous as a person's shopping habits become a measure of character. Alibaba admits it judges people by the types of products they buy. "Someone who plays video games for ten hours a day, for example, would be considered an idle person," says Li Yingyun, Sesame's Technology Director. "Someone who frequently buys diapers would be considered as probably a parent, who on balance is more likely to have a sense of responsibility." So the system not only investigates behaviour - it shapes it. It "nudges" citizens away from purchases and behaviours the government does not like.

Friends matter, too. The fifth category is interpersonal relationships. What does their choice of online friends and their interactions say about the person being assessed? Sharing what Sesame Credit refers to as "positive energy" online, nice messages about the government or how well the country's economy is doing, will make your score go up.

Alibaba is adamant that, currently, anything negative posted on social media does not affect scores (we don't know if this is true or not because the algorithm is secret). But you can see how this might play out when the government's own citizen score system officially launches in 2020. Even though there is no suggestion yet that any of the eight private companies involved in the ongoing pilot scheme will be ultimately responsible for running the government's own system, it's hard to believe that the government will not want to extract the maximum amount of data for its SCS, from the pilots. If that happens, and continues as the new normal under the government's own SCS it will result in private platforms acting essentially as spy agencies for the government. They may have no choice.

Posting dissenting political opinions or links mentioning Tiananmen Square has never been wise in China, but now it could directly hurt a citizen's rating. But here's the real kicker: a person's own score will also be affected by what their online friends say and do, beyond their own contact with them. If someone they are connected to online posts a negative comment, their own score will also be dragged down.

I get rating products and businesses. Movies and books. It is handy and a decent system to know what one is 'buying'.

But when people are going to start being rated like a 'product', that the government then recognizes as such and restricting movement and privilege..it runs a very, very slippery slope..

It's just a terrible idea all around. I shudder to think of something like this taking over the world and becoming mandatory.

Which it will become mandatory, in 2020 for Chinese citizens.

Why isn't anyone freaking out about this? This is the conspiracy theory of the century. This is it. This is how it will start.

Hope it is halted, before it starts.

I just read this

I am not trying to say that we have no free will. I believe we do have it but beside basic motors (like need to reproduce and eat and drink and seek shelter etc) that drive our existence, there might be another one that is very strongly correlated with collective conciousness.
I theorize that if there was some kind of global event where 99.99% of humanity would die and some primitive tribes that has no contact with modern world would survive - CC would influence them to develop sufficiently to create better explanation about the world than one they hold now.
That is why I think there is problem with population dropping in developed parts of the world and rising in undeveloped. CC "decided" that explanation given and expanded by our world is straying too far from truth and easier is to go back to previous one and wait for more accurate.
Naturally EU movement that is growing may be such next explanation. The question is - will it stand a trial of time?

I have strong feeling that force demanding better explanation is so strong and the current explanation is so far from truth that it may be for CC easier to go back a step

Other than GLP and one other forum from years back, my WWW footprint is rather small. I keep it that way for a reason.

I've never Tweeted, never been to Snapchat, I haven't logged into FB in over a year and only thing there really was sunset pics when I was at the beach.

Keeping my online life as separate as possible from my real world life, was absolutely imperative. Not because I am any different, but because I value my privacy absolutely.

I don't want people coming to look for me and having no images out there, makes that easier for me.

Twice a year, near the winter and summer solstices, the orbit of space station nearly parallels the terminator—the fuzzy line separating day from night on the surface below. For a period of about a week, we live in what seems like perpetual twilight, being in neither full daylight nor full night. Our orbit follows the terminator, so that space station is constantly sunlit. From this vantage I can see both day and night simply by swiveling my head from left to right. But the night is not really dark, and the day is lit by low-angle rays from the Sun.

Unlike any american president before him, Barack Obama and his intimate advisers follow/interact with symbols and signs of different meaning and consequence.

The global nature of this policy embraces awareness prompted by our sharing this universe with life forms not of earth origin.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1363474

When our solar system first encountered the effects of the entry into tour solar system of highly charged, magnetised, dusty plasma from the 'local fluff' plasma cloud in the latter part of the 1800`s, a marked increase in humans contact with non human intelligence was observed as well as fluctuations of our sun, which the Carrington effect Solar Storm of 1859 was the most notable.

Germany progressed non human communication and translation further than other nations in the 1930`s to 1945.

In 1945 USA and UK were aware of the following.

1) The information being received was accurate in the nature of it`s physics but because the physics were unlike any humans had imagined that our universe was comprised of, awareness of them transformed what humans are.

Awareness made it impossible to accept previous human formed lifestyles and beliefs.

2) Awareness of any part of this information received prompted what became known as "non local conscious" to engage and awareness increased via synchronicity , expressed as instant knowing, following experience of related events.

In other words the person began to think, express , anticipate and expect differently.

3) Because the information originates from intelligences which experience the same environment as ourselves in a manner that is unimaginable, we can not imagine the lifestyle that the information we receive forms.

Hence we can not know our future.

We can only know it is not what we once imagined.

To address this the following steps were taken .

The Office of Strategic Services (OSS) was utilized and expanded globally in the form of the CIA to locate and observe world wide individuals receiving communication

Their information was given to The Armed Forces Security Agency (AFSA], later to be known as the NSA, for translation and projection of outcome.

By the late 60`s it was considered "safe" to plan a global communications system, accessible to all, which in it`self ,acted as the interface for incoming non human information and it`s expression including, the synchronization of non local conscious effects.that result.

This is the simple outline to the complex situation we are now within

The Moon sets in a counterintuitive way. From this vantage it moves nearly parallel to the horizon. Once I saw it slowly set, only to reappear in a few minutes. The Moon was visible for nearly the whole orbit.

But at altitudes of 600 km—where the International Space Station orbits—satellites can stay up for decades. And that’s potentially a problem. They travel so fast—5 miles a second—that their “footprint” can be hundreds of miles long. “When you think of them as being that big, suddenly space doesn’t look as empty anymore,” McDowell says.

getting used to ourselves within the capacity of our technology to know ourselves was always going to be emotional short term in comparison to our long term future ahead of us once we become more familiar with ourselves

It's...technological fascism.

Yeah. The final one. Especially when your government takes control of it.

And from the response I can see exact why this will happen.

Glad I didn't have kids.

Patriarchy and/or Matriarchy is synonymous with hierarchy/class systems of subjects and rulers. Even golden age myth has kingship associated.

Kids have little idea how any of this works. Thumbs up, thumbs down.

This being 'rolled out' in China, is thought control of the highest form.

It will be exploited until it is abandoned. For obvious reasons. Unless they get the 'algorithm' just perfect'...but the how could they? When the slant is built in?

Did you know that in Gladiator 'thumbs down' actually was the 'show mercy' sign, but they changed it to 'thumbs up' to not confuse the audience?

Something so small. With a totally opposite meaning. Forced the change so as 'not to confuse'. And here we are.

That is like comparing showing someone who can drive a high tech car how to steer a horse and buggy. That takes time for even kids. The tech now, kids understand just fine.

The thought control is what they are susceptible to which is irresponsible even in the domain of peace or war.

All of that is a symptom of a huge problem, global belief.
