The water is dirty as fuck with a shit ton of people in the summer months so it's not really a beach to go and relax and enjoy the scenery on.. It's more of a last minute, "I'm broke as hell but I really wanna just 'say' I went to a beach but secretly am dying for Maui" kind of thinking...... Last Edited by Rockarchy on 07/20/2016 04:35 PM |

If you ever go, MUST eat Queen's BBQ~ but the dirty water is from the gulf and Mississippi river mixing. There are times when the water is crystal blue/green, but not often, and it has been taken over by Mexicans on vacation because Fertitta made it into a crap tourist town by building the failure Pleasure Pier full of commercial crap. I so wish I could go back and develop Galveston again, it has the structure and architecture, it just needs to be properly redeveloped again, it has the potential of being like Charleston SC, if someone with the vision can afford to make it happen. Tilman F wouldnt listen to me and made it a crap touristy place now with trashy people everywhere. |

But neither will southern Florida. |

It flows to the east hence the dirty beaches in Mississippi and Dauphin Island, AL. The rivers flowing into Mobile Bay deflect the dirty Mississippi River silt, hence why you have the whiter beaches from Baldwin County/Gulf Shores AL all the way through Florida. Galveston beaches are ugly because of the Houston ship channel and all ships constantly churning up the mud and them spilling their fuel in the canal as well that washes up on Galveston beaches. The prettier beaches are further south in Corpus and Padre. |

TheGasMan II GLP's Hank Hill User ID: 71648857 ![]() 09/02/2016 06:49 PM ![]() Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | We just spent a week at Jamaica Beach on Galveston Island and it was pretty nice. We rented a 3bd/2 ba house on a channel which had it's own boat dock and fishing deck. We caught fish and blue crabs. Nice clean beach down there on the west end of the island with plenty of eye candy and far less people than up on the east end, up by Pleasure Pier. We drove the minivan right down to the water damn near. We had a great time and I would recommend that area to my friends.
