I can personally confirm they're working on this right now. I wasn't allowed to take any photos in the lab where these technologies are being developed, but they're testing designs to harvest lunar regolith and 3d print structures on the moon using robots and lasers.

Re: Building a Moon Base From Lunar Materials 1986 NASA; Making Concrete from Moon Dust
The problem with building on the moon, are "moon quakes"

Nasa determined the moon has earthquakes, and due to its smaller size relative to the earth, the entire moon "rings like a bell" meaning the S & P waves have less distance to travel and do not slow down like in the Earth (because of the molten mantle)

So the difficulty is you have to build on the Moon's polls which are nodal points for the vibrations (the least vibration occurs there)

So the moon base structures have to be specifically engineered to survive moon quakes, they most likely cannot be made of a solid substance and must be vibration proof.

Are they working with students from the University of Houston Space Architecture program?

I am still considering switching from Physics & Mathematics to Physics & Mechanical Engineering and moving over to the University of Houston main campus.. This would be a cool Masters program to get into if I went the engineering route in my undergrad studies.

I gave 5 Stars OP because this kind of stuff is cool to me ohyeah

Re: Building a Moon Base From Lunar Materials 1986 NASA; Making Concrete from Moon Dust
When I was a Space Shuttle engineer, Rockwell as well as other companies spend some independent R&D money on this sort of tech every year. That was 30 years ago.

If you have an interest, you can dig up some of the conference papers in a good library.

For example, there are lava caves on the Moon that you can hide Manhattan in. They are huge offering radiation and meteorite shielding, possible frozen volatiles such as water, and a fabulous heat sink.

You guys want a conspiracy? I was on the inside. One of the major reasons that we do not have a replacement for the Space Shuttle is that certain corporations were making too much money off the Shuttle. They did NOT want a replacement or competition. They acted supportive of new launch vehicles while quietly lobbying against them.

I am thrilled that we are finally seeing commercial space endeavors.

I remember a meeting with my L5 buddies sitting around a kitchen table drinking cheap, red wine. We agreed that our long term goal was "the overthrow of the established order". One of those guys went on to become a powerful NASA bureaucrat. I am betting that HE is the guy quietly clearing the way for the commercial competitors.

For those who find space colonization inspiring, I say:

Get off the computer. Get an advanced tech degree. Get a job in the aerospace industry. You can be a part of this grand endeavor!

the moon is 45% oxygen by weight.so just use the hydrogen atmosphere and make water.then use ice blended with substrates and keep it frozen underground so the sun cant ionize the water.put titanium rebar in it.use compressed nitrogen to keep it cool.as a refrigerent.

ps,some dumbass along time ago told me moon was flyash, after looking it up,well?i still got a workaround.

I never thought about there being caverns on the moon.

Hmm.

And what about boring machines?

I for one would like to be deep inside the moon in case of a asteroid hit. Not in some building on the surface.

Re: Building a Moon Base From Lunar Materials 1986 NASA; Making Concrete from Moon Dust
ITs been ancient knowledge that the Earth is flat like a disk. THe moon and sun are not huge . Every nasa story about ongoing projects about building a moon base is fake.
Both the sun and the moon are said to be only 60 miles wide.

Even if you are allowed to land on these, Nasa still wouldn't release the photographs of the earth from the moon as the truth will then be known.

Whenever I hear that Nasa is planning for a moon base or a mars base or an arse base, I know that something else is up. That they are working on something else.

Nasa is highly compartmentalized, and one division has no knowledge of what another division is up to. This way although the project could describe one goal, the real agenda can be something else.

I have been hearing about MOon mining and moon bases right from childhood. Given the low tech of the 60's, and given the high tech we had in the 90's its pretty obvious why nasa hasn't been anywhere near the moon since then.

Good luck spreading the disinfo, but for some of us here, we are well past that, despite the degrees and phd's you wave at our faces.

Jesuits abounnd.
