SEBASTIAN COUNTY (KFSM) — Officers are in a standoff with a man who is suspected of shooting two Sebastian County officers on Wednesday (Aug. 10), according to the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect has been identified as Billy Monroe Jones of Greenwood, officers and Greenwood city leaders confirmed.

Pevehouse said the two officers were hit while responding to an unspecified call for service. He said the shooter is thought to still be in the house.

"We believe him to be holed up currently," Pevehouse said shortly before 9 a.m.

Law enforcement have surrounded the home and the SWAT team was on scene.

The Sebastian County Sheriff's Department identified the suspect as Billy Jones of Greenwood. He was described as having negative feelings towards law enforcement.

Neighbors told 40/29 News they know Billy Jones and his family, and they own a large number of weapons at their home. Neighbors also said there is a strip pit behind the home.

The shooting happened near Highway 253, in the area where Boone and Mockingbird Lane are. Law enforcement is asking people to stay away from the area.
