Can you get scabies from Goodwill clothes?

From my understanding, skin to skin contact is usually necessary.

I remember my dad got scabies when I was a kid, he worked with the primates at a zoo.

They do not launder the clothing

You can get scabies from walking by the clothing along with bed bugs and fleas and live can jump on you

They do have to disinfect the linens but not the clothes

Yes you can. When you got scabies, doctors probably advised you to put all of your laundry into big garbage bags and leave them for a couple days-weeks to let the scabies in them die. Washing these clothes wouldn't kill them, the same way showering won't cure you of them. They feed on the human body and can only live a couple days without a host

Yes, Billie got bed bugs from buying stuff at the local thrift store. That is true as well. It's not a good idea.

I don't think you can get it from cats or dogs. I did ask the vet about that when it happened. He said that the animals don't pick up the human mite.

It only comes from other humans.

But, I seriously think that there might be some danger of acquiring these bugs from being in the Goodwill or a similar thrift store.

My son was working there through the school district. He's special needs. That was an arrangement they had. He was the first one to come down with them and then, they spread to all of us.

It was a truly horrible situation. I had never had lice or scabies or bed bugs or anything like that before. I hope to never have them again.

They are awful.

You can get scabies and bed bugs from ANY cloth that has come into contact with the critters.

I have a friend who got bedbugs in her purse from the movie theater seats and another from Target clothing (I guess it had been returned or something close by had)

I keep large black trash bags in my trunk and put all clothing items I but into it and keep it in there to bake for a couple days. During winter I put in in the dryer.

Yes. My wealthy sister in law got them from sleeping in a bed at a five star hotel!! So did her husband at the same time!

I would assume, that by the time the clothing is "processed" from donation to rack ... any scabies would be dead - they only have a two week life span and they don't lay eggs in clothes ... that being said, why would you put anything on that you haven't washed first ... even from the store- they have dye residues and harsh chemicals on them to keep them "wrinkle free" during transportation

tip: if you include a few drops of a menthol or highly aromatic oil (Eucalyptus, Peppermint, Lavender, Clove, etc) to the wash rinse cycle - that alone is enough to repel these little beasties ... put it in you own bath water - if you have any notion that you may be exposed to someone with these parasites - you become "repulsive" to insects of all sorts

there are about seventy varieties of these "aphids" that move between plants and animals to lay their eggs ... some live in hair, eyelashes, eye brows (lice) in your crotch (crabs) on the surface, chiggers, (fleas are a different family) These "bugs" are so small that they can hide in skin pores and that is where they deposit their eggs, which takes your body two weeks of scratching and anti-body's attention to rid yourself of their presence - people with weakened immune systems suffer the most

I know this, because I just researched it - because while mowing tall grass, I got infested with "itch mites" - chiggers - harvest itch to the old-timers ... and found the critters responsible, crawling on me ... identified them, on-line and got rid of them - and learned how to prevent getting them - without using chemicals - which I am now sharing with you ... so you don't have to deal with this problem that seems to be on the rise

PS "bed bugs" are a whole different family - the aphids don't need blood, just warm moist environments - the fleas, mosquitoes and bed bugs, and flies need blood which makes them dangerous - but also easy to control, with DE (diatomaceous earth) and the good news is, you can PREVENT them from getting on YOU, with aromatic organic oils ... all delivered to your door my amazon LOL

Yes. Absolutely. It passes on blankets, clothes, luggage, even books at the library. Always bag and launder (hot cycle with bleach, the hot cycle dryer) clothes from Goodwill.
