Quoting: Anonymous Coward 69972126 [link to sputniknews.com] Philippines Threaten 'Bloody Confrontation' with Beijing Over South China Sea The bombastic Filipino President Rodrigo Duterte moved to escalate tensions in the South China Sea knowing that the United States is under a treaty obligation to defend the Philippines. Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, known as the Donald Trump of the Pacific, unleashed a fiery batch of rhetoric this week that threatens to light a match under the South China Sea powder keg threatening a "bloody confrontation" against any country that infringes on Manila’s sovereignty and suggesting that he would "happily beat up" any party that attempts to take control of the disputed Scarborough Shoals. [link to nationalinterest.org] Report: China Could Make a Big Move in the South China Sea Starting Next Month It seems if the People’s Republic of China is going to make a push to radically alter the status-quo in the South China Sea—by reclaiming the hotly disputed Scarborough Shoal that is clearly within the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of the Philippines—we now have a good idea of when that might happen: sometime between early September, after the G-20 summit being hosted in China, and the U.S. presidential election on November 8th. The idea was laid out in a recent article in the South China Morning Post in an article dated August 13th. The report, quoting “a source familiar with the matter”, said that Beijing would not carry out any reclamation work on the Shoal before hosting the G-20 next month but could begin construction before America goes to the polls. “Since the G20 will be held in Hangzhou next month, and regional peace will be the main topic among leaders of the great powers, China will refrain from [acting on the] reclamation plan,” explained the source, who was not identified. China to move on Scarborough Shoal, Philippines say they will slaughter chinese soldiers How are the Filipinos gonna slaughter Chinese soldiers when they can't even get air superiority over CHN ? H-6 bombers and other fighter bombers can literally sweep clean the islands of Filipino soldiers before the Chinese amphibious landing. By the time Chinese land on the islands all Filipino troops previously present would already be bombed beyond recognition. The only hope for them is if Uncle Sam fights China for them, but is the Murican Uncle willing to possibly start WW3 over a war that doesn't even affect the territorial sovereignty of US territory ? If they wanna talk big, then at least they should be somewhat realistic, otherwise it'll be nothing but propaganda and meaningless rhetoric that looks childish and innocently mindless Jingoism . Hell, even the Vietnamese would put up a better fight against the Chinese than the Filipinos, considering that at least Vietnamese Air Force has a few dozen Sukhoi Su-30 jets while Filipinos don't even have a modern combat jet other than a few trainers. |

China to move on Scarborough Shoal, Philippines say they will slaughter chinese soldiers Why can't we do the same to the Philippines. Give them all the guns and defense weaponry that they will need. Hell sell them some planes so they will have an air force. Send over some medium range ballistic missiles and the THAAD system. Then let them have a go at it with China. Let the Philippines take the brunt of the bombing and we just step in to help out in the last second... If China tries to take out Guam, then we nuke them to the stone age.... :nuke3: |

China to move on Scarborough Shoal, Philippines say they will slaughter chinese soldiers The Phillipines can practice assymetric warfare. For example, they can put sea mines in the shipping lanes to China and near the disputed islands/shoals. They could even do this covertly and without affirming that they did it. Such harassment could be subtle at first as a warning. The damage to China's economy would be enormous. Like a lot of empire builders before them, the Chicoms have laid out their long term goal which is to dominate or own all of the islands in the first and second island chains off their shore. I think conquering Taiwan is difficult; taking over Japan would be almost suicidal. It is possible that some of these nations have nukes and are not advertising the fact. Japan has them for sure. Taiwan and S. Korea could easily go nuclear. Nukes have a calming effect on dreams of empire. If the surrounding nations want to retain their sovereignty and territory, e.g., islands a few miles off their shores, they will need to form a serious alliance against China. The only way forward for the Chinese is to succeed as an economic power. For this, they need peace. I hope the Chinese people realize that they do not need to conquer their neighbors in order to be a great country. How about channeling that energy towards the exploration and colonization of outer space? That is a worthy goal for the 21st century! Ad astra |
