The off color piss sounds like cirrhosis of the liver. If you have diabetes, your left ear lobe should have a crease in it that points toward your shoulder. Also, do you have areas on your legs with no hair? Another sign. Brain confusion, trouble thinking, always thirsty. Mine went undetected for so long I had metabolic syndrome, and I would sweat a lot, just from being on my feet, because my blood pressure would sky rocket.

Re: Any One Out Here With Diabetes? Not sure I am one but curious.
I sweat profusely - I get dizzy and almost feel like I will pass out. My entire body wants to shake. I can't sign my own name until after 12 pm. I am 61 yrs old, my father died of diabetes at the age of 60.

Now here is the kicker. I drink vodka every day - never to get drunk - but, I do every day to calm the symptoms above. These are not hangovers they are nothing I've ever felt before. And the god damn itchys !
 Quoting: GUAM USA

That doesn't sound anything like diabetes. It sounds like you're starting to go through withdrawals from alcohol by morning. Once you have few drinks your hands settle down and you get yourself back together.

That's classic signs of alcoholism. I've known people who started the morning off with a bottle of whiskey and would drink it out of a coffee cup so it wasn't so obvious what they were dong. Their hands wold shake badly like you describe. So much so they could hardly hold a drink till they had a few. A classic alcoholic way to deal with that is to tie a handkerchief around your wrist, loop it over the back of your neck, and pull your hand with the drink up to your mouth.

I don't believe you've said exactly how much you drink. To the people I was talking about a bottle was a liter. They referred to a fifth as a "little bottle".

It's easy to get a glucose level done. They just stick your finger and can tell right away what your blood sugar level is.

A liver profile involves them drawing blood and a few days to analyze it. Your doctor will palpate your stomach to see if your liver is enlarged, look at the whites of your eyes to see if you're jaundiced, etc.

It's a little hard to believe you're confusing the effects of alcoholism for diabetes, but good luck. You really need to stop drinking.

Clearly that post is based on personal experience.

But it's still accurate.

I work in medical.

I've seen thousands of diabetics.

Diabetes can give all sorts of different and severe symptoms. But not in the beginning. In the beginning, symptoms are a lot more subtle.

I'm not a doctor. I don't give advice. But based on basic info, what you describe, OP, sounds like alcohol-related disease.

The liver cleans out toxins from the body. When alcohol is taken in enough quantities, over enough time (different for everybody), the liver starts having a hard time clearing out those toxins. The toxins are redistributed through the blood stream.

Which causes all sorts of physical issues. The cells in the body are unable to function properly when toxins are overwhelming the system...causing similar reactions you describe ...itchiness, shaking, sweating

A normal hangover is due to the imbalances caused by alcohol...electrolytes, metabolism, nutrient disruption, etc.

What you describe...sounds like your body has been dealing with all those imbalances for so long, that it is now beyond the hangover period. The body can only heal so much abuse. Eventually, that abuse catches up and minor symptoms we ignore...become major signs we can not dismiss.

Your body is TELLING you it needs help. You MUST tell your doctor everything. It's not too late.

But doctors often ignore DIET as part of their treatment plan. They usually only rely on drugs and surgery.

You NEED to clean out your body. Slowly.

Just like a cut on the outside of the body..all you need to do is keep it clean and let the body heal itself.

Internally is the same thing...keep the internal environment clean to allow the body to heal itself too.

Which is what a hangover is doing.

However it sounds like your body is beyond the normal hangover healing, you will need the doctors assistance. But you must also keep your internal environment CLEAN!

Lots of fruits, fruits, fruits. Fresh air. Clean filtered water. Proper electrolytes and micro-nutrient supplements. Vitamin intake, etc...

But most importantly, show your body the love and respect it deserves. Pay attention to it and support it with kindness.

Btw...even if you had diabetes, or anything else...you would still need to see a doctor and keep your internal environment clean.

Yes, and I haven't drank for more than 20 years now. AA wasn't involved either. When stopping looked better than continuing to drink I tapered myself off and haven't had a drink since.

The actual person I was referring to never stopped drinking and died from stomach cancer.

If you have diabetes.. do your homework on cinnamon, apple cider vinegar, intermittent fasting and low card diet. Diabetes at any level can be reversed. Also look up dr Jason Fung.

Dr told me I have diabetes last week. brought my fasting sugar from 130 to 89 in a few days. And my one hour after meal sugar was 133 they say below 140 is normal right after meal.

If you do the apple cider vinegar which I hope all diabetics do... you have to get Braggs it is in the organic food section in store not the store brand and such as it should be raw, unpasteurized and with the "mother"

last night I did the apple cider vinegar drink before dinner. I ate a regular carbs (ya shouldn't do that but wanted to test how well the drink works) had potatoes and baked beans with dinner and ate popcorn a bit later. 45 min alter done is when blood sugar was 130.

If you are on a pill or insulin for diabetes.. Do not do this if you have taken your pill as your sugar may crash.. skip your meds one day and just give it a try and see for yourself I am telling you the truth.

My meds Dr gave me are still in the bag I wont take them. :)

I am a Type 2 diabetic. Okay, first things first.

1. Stop drinking Vodka immediately. Alcohol contains sugar and that will interfere with insulin production.

2. Begin to drink a LOT of water. No sodas like Coke, Pepsi, or anything with a lot of sugar in it.

3. You need to get to a doctor and have some lab work done. You need to find out what you A1C number is. This tells where you are on the scale of being diabetic. Anything 6.5 or over is diabetic. They may need to put you on a drug like Metformin (which is a popular diabetic drug).

4. This is serious business. Don't wait to go to the doctor because diabetes can affect your kidneys, your eyes, your legs and your heart. This is nothing to play with.

5. Stop eating a lot of sugar and carbs. Stick with grilled foods, salads, and vegetables.

6. You may want to talk to a doctor first, especially if you're on a thyroid medication, but Magnesium supplements are good for lowering blood sugar.

7. The itching, sweats, thirst, dizziness are all symptoms of your blood sugar being too high. You really, really need to get to a doctor. If you begin to get nauseated and dizzy and feel as though you're going to pass out, you may need to eat some peanut butter crackers and drink some orange juice (even though OJ has sugar). Don't wait until your hunger pangs are really bad. Eat small snacks.

See a doctor asap. Usually they will have you fast the night before and then draw blood in the morning for lab testing.

In most cases a doctor can look at a lab report and determine if you are diabetic.

Good luck and be well.

Have you destroyed your liver with alcohol? Are you jaundiced.

Diabetes makes you thirsty, eat a lot, but loose weight, urinate a lot.

Liver damage makes you itch.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 70431879

Could be. Honestly have no idea. I lost 10 pounds in the last few months. I drink about a gallon of water a day but always with vodka - because I don't itch and I don't get dizzy.

So is it am an alcoholic or is it because I became a diabetic?

Perhaps both?
 Quoting: GUAM USA

Probably both. Pathological itching can be an indication of early nerve damage. It can change into instant stinging feelings, typically in the feet and lower legs.

A gallon of water a day can lead to loss of electrolytes which can cause dizziness, feinting, and even brain damage or a deadly coma.

Feinting can lead to other life changing events as well. A friend of mine broke her ankle badly from feinting and it has affected her ability to walk because the entire ordeal has contributed to her pelvis being lopsided when she walks. So now she has to rely on either a Rollator or a cane to get around. IOW, you might want to nip your problem in the bud because you're risking a lot.

Re: Any One Out Here With Diabetes? Not sure I am one but curious.
I'm well versed in Diabetes. I have 3 family members that are type-1 diabetics.

First there are 2 types of diabetes:

1. Juvenile or type 1. Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone that enables people to get energy from food. It occurs when the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas.

2. Type 2 diabetes, once known as adult-onset or noninsulin-dependent diabetes, is a chronic condition that affects the way your body metabolizes sugar (glucose), your body's important source of fuel.

Insulin is a hormone (or key) that allows your cells to use sugar as a source of energy. Remember that all foods are a source of sugar, though fat and protein do not break down into sugar. Carbohydrates equal sugar.

Untreated high blood sugar levels are serious and left untreated can be fatal.

To me it sounds like you could be dealing with both liver and pancreas issues.

You can go to any Walmart or Walgreens and get a blood glucose meter and test strips, and a lancet device to prick your finger for $50.

Good luck OP, this is not the end of the world, not by a long shot.

I sort of limit my carbs.

I know I overdo it when I stand and I feel lightheaded and sound volume seems lower for about 5 seconds.

And/or I do repetitive work, with my hands unsupported for a few hours. Such as carpentry. The muscles between my shoulder blades feel fatigued. Like your legs do when you run a long distance.

In either case I know its time for a sammich or some such to get some carbs into my system.

What’s interesting is that if I do that once, those symptoms don’t come back for days weeks or even months.

this is true...cold turkey can cause seizures if you have a daily habit of decent quantities of Vodka. The tremors may be alcohol withdrawal as previous poster stated as sweats can be also. You should weed out the alcohol from the diabetes problem first. Liver involvement can cause many issues. Urine discoloration not a good sign. Get yourself to an urgent care facility ASAP to get some tests done They will know with two blood tests if it's diabetes or alcohol related....best of luck to you....

Have you destroyed your liver with alcohol? Are you jaundiced.

Diabetes makes you thirsty, eat a lot, but loose weight, urinate a lot.

Liver damage makes you itch.

Could be. Honestly have no idea. I lost 10 pounds in the last few months. I drink about a gallon of water a day but always with vodka - because I don't itch and I don't get dizzy.

So is it am an alcoholic or is it because I became a diabetic?

Perhaps both?
