The Wizzard of gotcha moments User ID: 72880209 United States 08/29/2016 08:39 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I've always been amazed that this event is not more widely talked about as it was only 230 years ago! Quoting: Sir Griffo Why would an earth changing event on this scale in such recent times be swept under the carpet, can you imagine the effect on today's society? An event that caused immediate catastrophe to Iceland and climatic events that shook Europe and other parts of the world in such dramatic fashion, should surely be at the front of our history books. The possibility of a similar event occurring is very high. I know many people around here are aware of what happened in the summer of 1783, but I thought I'd post about this massive event in our recent history for anyone that was unaware... The system erupted over an eight-month period between 1783 and 1784 from the Laki fissure and the adjoining volcano Grímsvötn, pouring out an estimated 14 km3 (3.4 cu mi) of basalt lava and clouds of poisonous hydrofluoric acid and sulfur dioxide compounds that killed over 50% of Iceland's livestock population, leading to a famine which then killed approximately 25% of the island's human population. The Laki eruption and its aftermath caused a drop in global temperatures, as sulfur dioxide was spewed into the Northern Hemisphere. This caused crop failures in Europe and may have caused droughts in India. The eruption has been estimated to have killed over six million people globally, making it the deadliest in historical times. Benjamin Franklin himself was witness to this amazing event and wrote about the mysterious killer haze that engulfed Europe and North America. Whenever I hear of governments in Europe preparing for disasters etc, I always think of Laki, and recent warnings by the German government and other European nations for citizens to stockpile food, water and supplies, got me thinking of this cataclysmic event yet again... The BBC Timewatch programme made a great documentary 'Killer Cloud'' a few years back, it's a great watch. I'll post the the first of 6 parts from youtube on here... [link to en.m.wikipedia.org (secure)] [link to en.m.wikipedia.org (secure)] The bigger question is why is it always 6 million killed? The holocaust killed 6 million, this was 6 million.....6 million must be the magic number. How did they come up with 6 million? Did they hand count them all? I suspect t that would take a long time to count each, individually. |

It did not change Europe forever, it plunged Europe and the northern half hemispheres into darkness for quite a long time, and the main reason for bubonic plagues in Europe. The big one is three eruptions that will change the world forever, both by land and sea, never before seen since Atlantis. Further detail already foretold by Joe Brandt, The Boy Vision. Mostly talking about America, but it will affect the world. "I will send foreigners to Babylon to winnow her and to devastate her land; they will oppose her on every side in the day of her disaster." - Jeremiah 51:2 Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, "Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand." - Matthew 12:25 Just over 8 months to go. |

I believe the French Revolution occurred due to years of famine and starvation of the people of France, which can all point a few years back to this event. Certainly changed Europe forever! Yes for sure this is a mini event in history, however the fact it was only 250 years ago is what people need to know... Everyone assumes mega doom only ever occurred in ancient history! |

Quoting: Sir Griffo Throwing up more than three cubic miles of lava, Benjamin Franklin noted that clouds of ash had led to a "constant fog over all Europe, and a great part of north America" after the Laki eruption. The cloud of noxious gas settled over the continent, resulting in mass livestock deaths and the decimation of crops. The food scarcity that followed would eventually lead to unrest in France. Cornwall lost much of it land between Wales and shrunk even smaller, many drowned so called Doomsayer. This was the time of Romans Catholic and Protestants so called Inquisitions by more than 300 years persecutions of Christians, Jews and Witch-Hunt craze before and after America was found. There was many before that tot he ancient days, they all happened alot around wars and threat of wars. |

Lake Taupo would be a game changer for sure if it went off... Krakatoa is south of the equator That was a bit of a big eruption Tambora also in Indonesia about 60 years before Krakatoa killed twice as many.. Around 80,000 I think.. Yes, 1815 Tambora caused dark winter for US and EU in 1816. Famine and food riots and a typhus epidemic started. The US took measures to protect against immigration repercussion following these events by making a National Park policy to protect huge tracts of land from becoming squatter camps. Then in 1921 the Emergency Quota Act which limited refugees. Adds curiosity to the American Revolutionary War 1775-1783 real cause. Starving people, zombies? |

Millions died. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72225419 Sorry about that... Not really a nature event catastrophe though was it. Eugenics was based on sustainability. So Stalin's plan was initially to create a human race that would survive all the natural disasters. Sure he had a God Complex but I believe there was an effort to mercifully save humanity... went terribly wrong and was totally unethical but... looking at the refugee crisis now puts a better perspective on distribution of sustainability. |
