heard some bad flooding reported in the outer banks while hermine passed through. the water came from the sound side.

Hermine a Coastal Flood, Erosion Menace in Virginia, Delmarva, New Jersey, Long Island, Connecticut Through Labor Day Weekend

Hermine is beginning to stall off the East Coast, and will continue to impact areas from the Virginia Tidewater to southeast New England with battering waves, coastal flooding and beach erosion through the Labor Day weekend, and beyond.

While this storm will likely not be nearly as large as Superstorm Sandy, you don't need a storm as large as Sandy to be destructive, and moderate coastal flooding is still expected along parts of the East Coast.

Hermine's wind field is anticipated to expand a bit into Monday, which means an uptick in its capability to generate waves and still a chance some of those stronger winds are able to bend back toward the coast.

NEW YORK (AP) — New York City says its beaches will be off-limits to swimming, bathing and surfing on Labor Day because of rip currents stemming from storm system Hermine.

N.J. shouldn't let its guard down with Hermine yet, forecasters say

"Although the (National Hurricane Center) forecast track has been shifted eastward today, there is still a threat of tropical storm conditions, coastal flooding and large waves along portions of the mid-Atlantic and northeastern United States coast during the next couple of days," the National Hurricane Center said in its 5 p.m. update.

As of 5 p.m., Hermine has slowed down significantly, and is now heading east-northeast at 5 miles per hour off the Virginia coast. Forecasters expect a trough of low pressure to interact with Hermine in the near future, pulling it back toward the coast.

Direction change, pressure drop, slowing down.
'Meandering' time.

The system has been stalled dead for hours. Its not moving at all now.

And max wind speeds are 100 km/hr near the center.

Don't get to comfortable in New Jersey just yet as I think there is a real change this will get sucked back into the coast.

Correction, according to my pin of the epicentre, this storm just went backwards (south) by almost half a state.

I think it's still worth keeping an eye on as well.

Unless there's a drastic change in the forecast, it looks like there's no need to follow this anymore. Could have been worse, glad it wasn't.

At this speed, even if it does continue NW today, it won't get far before the turn. Still a wave maker, but not the danger it could have been. I'll be watching it during the day, so if anything out of the ordinary happens, of course I'll post.

How long, how far will it go in this direction, and could it possibly take a more WNW direction are the questions now, I suppose.

Well, look at that. 500 pm shows it moving WNW, with increased speed.

Remember, no recent forecast mentioned a WNW direction, only N and NW.
Definitely going to keep an eye on it.

You should see the waves we have at the beach here! So cool! The wind is awesome too!

Nice. I was going to ask if anyone lived near the shore, and what they were seeing. This thing doubled it's speed (7, up from 3)and is heading towards the coast again. Whether it strengthens anymore is debatable, but the surge will increase, and that's bad enough. They said only a few miles in track makes a difference, so we'll see.

It's definitely noticeable here! But in an exciting way for now.
