Patricia was first classified a tropical depression on October 20. and Patricia grew from a tropical storm to a Category 5 hurricane in just 24 hours—a near-record pace. [ link to en.wikipedia.org (secure)] Tropical Storm Hermine is now roughly 12 hours from landfall along Florida's Gulf Coast, potentially as the state's first hurricane landfall since Hurricane Wilma in 2005. [ link to weather.com (secure)] Very good point. There is definitely a good bit of convection wrapping around the center now. Not sure if the westerly winds have lessen, but eagerly anticipating the next vortex message to see if the pressure has significantly dropped below the current 991mb. [ link to www.ssd.noaa.gov]
