Truthserum User ID: 1611090 United States 09/02/2016 03:34 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Greetings, some questions about a dog vs. Dog attack. Quoting: Michigan Man Some neighbors were passing by with their two Pit Bull mixes on leashes. They stopped and we made conversation about our pets. while talking to them about their dogs I told them about my one year old husky and that she loves to meet other dogs and play, I asked them if their dogs were playful and they said it would be okay if we brought my husky out to meet their dogs. My friend went to grab my husky out of the house by the collar to bring it down to put it on the fixxed yard leash. Unfortunately as he got out the door the dogs all got excited in seeing each other, my husky being very playful jumped up in excitement and broke loose of his grip on her collar. At that point my husky approached the two dogs looking playful but things turned aggressive very quickly and it happened literally in-between my legs. Being right there I immediately had my dog restrained by the collar and head, My friend and I at this point tried picking my dog directly up into the air and the other two dogs continued attacking. My dog had not bitten another dog yet due to the fact I had her into the air. She was extremely stressed due to the fact she was being bitten and it was impossible for me to do anything but restrain her while the two pits leashes completely entwined around my legs and frantically biting my dog. one of them was fully latched in lockjaw on her buttock and shaking it's head viscously just next to her tail. She was being bitten very hard I could tell and being caught in the mix of leashes and dogs and myself actually bit in the back of my calf at this point. I just thought it best if I just let my dog go and try to jump out of the way and hoped the dogs could sort it out or at least allow my Husky a chance to defend herself. holding my dog into the air with her belly and bottom half completely exposed while she was getting bitten by two dogs looked like a very bad situation and It seemed like I was the only one in control of my dog at this point. this was causing both her and I injuries to no end. When I dropped my dog to the ground I jumped out of the leashes and kind of tripped/fell to the ground and quickly righted myself. As I turned back around my dog now on her own legs had spun around and started getting the best of one of the pit bulls. She wanted revenge on the lockjaw attacker and went at hard while the other one continued it's side attacks. I immediately jumped back in with my friend and restrainined my dog again. My friend spent some time separating another lockjaw attack this time at the base of my dogs tail. I quickly carried my husky inside as they left with their two dogs. This was 2 days ago. Today she came and handed me a Vet bill for $572 and said she doesn't think that she needs to be paying this and asked me if I would pay the bill. I apologize to her about the incident asked her if her dog was okay and exchanged phone numbers. This is where I'm at. Your dog was off leash and was the aggressor...you owe her the vet bills. If you have homeowners insurance it should cover it but beware, you will be alerting the insurance carrier to your having a dog not controlled properly by you. Anonymous Coward User ID: 1584881 United States 09/02/2016 03:45 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have 3 large dogs. i have been in this situation. i reccomend a full harness the dog wears all the time. and a real leash. i knw it doesnthelp you previously but makes it much easier to controlwhen they are excited like this. problem is the pits were not socialized enough as puppies and this will allways be a problem for them now. what i was taught in guard school. is when they are locked on each other like this to grab both rear legs and raise them up in the air as high as possible, it is supposed to force them to disengage. it has worked for me.you raise them vertically. but the person doing that should be known well by the dog. it is possible for them to focus their attention on you when you do this. it was the only thing that worked for me in a bullmastiff pitbull fight. |
Lady Jane Smith Forum Administrator 09/02/2016 03:54 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | OP, the only thing that really stands out to me is that the other person's dog bit YOU. An attack on a human is bad news for her. The whole situation sucks, but you might want to remind her that you were injured in the attack, as well as your dog. maybe both parties should pay their own bills, consider this a lesson learned and move forward. Anonymous Coward User ID: 13770359 United States 09/02/2016 04:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | i have a very friendly sweet dog that has shown me many times as a puppy that she will interpret a certain style of dog play as an attack and respond as if attacked. After spending a year taking dog training classes, the teacher just said, No off leash dog park, ever. I am pretty sure she would get herself killed if I took her to a place with a bunch of strange dogs and let her loose. It would scare the crap out of her and she would feel she had to defend herself. SO, on the street I just would never ask someone, is your dog friendly? and let them interact. I know my dog may not like the dog. I tell you all that history and add that I am talking about a 20 lb dog that is not going to do the kind of damage a husky or a pit bull can.You need to be the protector of your dog and not allow them to get in a situation like that. So because you brought out your husky to play and the dogs got hurt I guess if you had not brought out your dog it all would have been ok. I dont know where they should expect you to pay it all! You asked and they said ok. So I dont know, maybe offer them some of the money as a gesture of being sorry it happened and you will probably see them again and not have an enemy. Jeez. If I saw a husky meeting 2 pit bulls I would be wary of being near. After what happened I hope you are more careful in having a more controlled meet and greet for new dogs to get acquainted with each other. If a dog is uncomfortable they need to be able to leave the situation safely. Keep your dog safe and dont put her/him in harms way.Dont believe people when they say their dog is friendly or whatever. Most people have zero control or understanding of their dog. Because I have such a sensitive dog I have become hyper aware of this ( I used to have a more chill dog who would just lift a lip if a dog gave him a bad vibe and nothing would ever happen)I guess now I have to be the lip lifter to create a safe space and people are really rude about letting their off leash dogs ruin all the regular parks for people with leashed dogs. It sucks so please dont bully leashed dogs by letting your husky off leash in a leashed park. I know you didnt say you did that but I just added my own problem here at the end:) |

(And in the end, he couldn't control them either.) be sure to take your dog to a Vet to document the injuries sustained and how much it will cost to treat. this is the law in most states as dogs are considered "property" and so must be properly maintained and controlled AT ALL TIMES. so no "pain and suffering" either. Only damages. |

Dogs, just like people have their safe space and even if the intent of ops dog was of a friendly nature the fact remains his dog was off leash and it was this action that created the situation making that the proximate cause of the incident. dogs do not have feelings in a court of law as they are considered PROPERTY LOL, they don't have to have feelings (Even though that is a ridiculous statement on its face), the owner did not control his dog, this created the situation and he is legally responsible. You seem rather obtuse..... lol its what law states. the busky would not have been bitten if not told by the pitt's owners "Sure, bring your dog outside, its ok!" Most likely what would happen is BOTH OWNERS will be on the hook for their own damages for slightly different reasons because the purpose of the courts in theory is to put you back where you were before the bad hing happened...PERIOD they seek to make you whole |

ISLANDIA User ID: 71913957 United States 09/02/2016 07:11 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Been working with dogs all my life.. One dog on a leash and one off will almost always end up in a dog fight should they come in contact with one and other..Often starts out as playing or simple dominance issue which quickly escalates. general the one dog being restrained fears it is being attacks and often will be the aggressor.. Huskys area also an aggressive breed of dog, their fur is so thick it is often protects the animal. When introducing two dogs they should always either be both on the leash or off. with Two dogs who know one and other can turns pack very quickly on a single new dog.. |
