Call an attorney and get some advice before you do anything.

And having ANY dogs meet new dogs is always best done on neutral ground---not on either dogs' home property.

Even then, I'd have all dogs leashed and firmly in control of owners. You just never know.

Sucks this happened OP but do you have leash laws in your state? If so, Was this on your private property or public property?

If public property and you have leash laws there, pay up before they take you to court and get 4 times that from you.

THIS!!! It happened to my parents neighbors on their property and the little assholes didn't wanna pay the vet bill...my parents even gave them the opportunity to make payments ...but they wanted to be clowns so off to court they went.

Instead of paying the $1788 vet bill , the judge ordered them pay $3,840 resistution AND IF THEY MISSED 1 SINGLE PAYMENT TO MY PARENTS , they were to immediately report it to the court! The judge was NOT A happy camper that they tried to pull " what a good dog" that rottweiler was that came on their property and and ripped open my dad's 7 lb dog carrying her out to the field to kill her.

She lived.... ONLY by prayer and the grace of God. 4 drainage tubes and 311 stitches. Poor chia.

Go to court.Let the judge decide.

You should know, and I will tell you,a one year old husky be it male OR female is very aggressive. They have a lead dog mentality and are always willing to fight for it.Good part is,one usually exerts dominance quickly, the fight is over and off they go to play, each knowing its place. No harm,no foul.

But add in pitbulls, even the usual nice ones, and they are different. They get screwed with they mean to fight and fight to the end.You mixing the 2,bad bad combo.

My female husky is tough, can beat 90% of dogs at park, and we watch the huskies go through this endlessly. But screw with a pitbull, not a chance, she knows thats a bad bad idea....after a couple good trouncings.

One fight,my female 3 year old against 1 year old male husky just aching for a fight. He beat her (very unusual),then wouldnt stop! Kept charging, kept biting, had her down....until my female GSD,friendliest dog in the world, had seen enough. She charged in between them, reared up,a BIG BARK.....and it was over! Young guy finally saw the light,he could whip my husky,he was in waaaaaay over his head when the GSD was added to the equation.

GSD also never fights, you want to be alpha,OK,you got it.But when she has finally had her button pushed enough,LOOK OUT!

There is no such thing.
APBTs have very strong jaws, and will not release easily - but they DO NOT lock.

There is NO breed of dog with a locking jaw.
It's an urban myth.

[link to blog.sfgate.com]
or if you don't like that link, do a search for pitbull locking jaw, and you'll find many, many more sources which dispell the locking jaw myth.
BTW - the red-nose in that picture looks VERY much like my boy 'Stig'. (who doesn't have any APBT in him)

Re: Damnit, Dog on Dog Attack. Advice please
I wouldn't pay anything. I have been around pit bulls and some good ones and some bad ones. But seeing them lock down is their nature and the breed needs to go. My best friend had to put his down after it attacked his longtime sweet dog of 15 years three times for no reason. The last time took a two by four to get the dog off after almost 7 minutes.

Any dog that attacks and locks down needs to be put down.

Re: Damnit, Dog on Dog Attack. Advice please
Greetings, some questions about a dog vs. Dog attack.
Some neighbors were passing by with their two Pit Bull mixes on leashes. They stopped and we made conversation about our pets. while talking to them about their dogs I told them about my one year old husky and that she loves to meet other dogs and play, I asked them if their dogs were playful and they said it would be okay if we brought my husky out to meet their dogs. My friend went to grab my husky out of the house by the collar to bring it down to put it on the fixxed yard leash. Unfortunately as he got out the door the dogs all got excited in seeing each other, my husky being very playful jumped up in excitement and broke loose of his grip on her collar. At that point my husky approached the two dogs looking playful but things turned aggressive very quickly and it happened literally in-between my legs. Being right there I immediately had my dog restrained by the collar and head, My friend and I at this point tried picking my dog directly up into the air and the other two dogs continued attacking. My dog had not bitten another dog yet due to the fact I had her into the air. She was extremely stressed due to the fact she was being bitten and it was impossible for me to do anything but restrain her while the two pits leashes completely entwined around my legs and frantically biting my dog. one of them was fully latched in lockjaw on her buttock and shaking it's head viscously just next to her tail. She was being bitten very hard I could tell and being caught in the mix of leashes and dogs and myself actually bit in the back of my calf at this point. I just thought it best if I just let my dog go and try to jump out of the way and hoped the dogs could sort it out or at least allow my Husky a chance to defend herself. holding my dog into the air with her belly and bottom half completely exposed while she was getting bitten by two dogs looked like a very bad situation and It seemed like I was the only one in control of my dog at this point. this was causing both her and I injuries to no end. When I dropped my dog to the ground I jumped out of the leashes and kind of tripped/fell to the ground and quickly righted myself. As I turned back around my dog now on her own legs had spun around and started getting the best of one of the pit bulls. She wanted revenge on the lockjaw attacker and went at hard while the other one continued it's side attacks. I immediately jumped back in with my friend and restrainined my dog again. My friend spent some time separating another lockjaw attack this time at the base of my dogs tail. I quickly carried my husky inside as they left with their two dogs. This was 2 days ago. Today she came and handed me a Vet bill for $572 and said she doesn't think that she needs to be paying this and asked me if I would pay the bill. I apologize to her about the incident asked her if her dog was okay and exchanged phone numbers. This is where I'm at.
 Quoting: Michigan Man

Your dog was off leash and was the aggressor...you owe her the vet bills.

If you have homeowners insurance it should cover it but beware, you will be alerting the insurance carrier to your having a dog not controlled properly by you.
 Quoting: Truthserum

worst case scenario is a judge will order both parties to pay for their own
bills as they both contributed to an extent but remember...
the ORIGINATING CAUSE WAS THE HUSKY OWNER LETTING HIS DOG OUT BECAUSE THE PIT OWNER SAID HIS DOGS WERE COOL...

DETRIMENTAL RELIANCE (look it up, real legal term.)
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72910416

LMAO...yes, you are correct when you say it's a "legal term"...pity though, you obviously have no idea what it means and why it is not applicable in this situation.

You brought your dog out by the scruff of his/her neck to meet two pits and you're surprised that he/she got attacked?

OP do your dog a favor and bring him/her to me such that he/she has an owner with the intellect/balls to give said dog a worthy life... Free of your balless idiocy.

Find an attorney in your county willing to give you a free consultation in the field of property damage or personal injury. I wouldn't take any advice here...it is going to be specific to where you live and there's a lot of details to this story.

However, I feel they may end up advising you to pay their bill to avoid a mess. Again, depending on where you live, if they want to be dicks and report the incident to animal services, they could come confiscate your dog and put into quarantine for X number of days. Is your dog current on rabies? I hope so.

Get professional legal advice ASAP.
Truth-seeker, trying to figure out how to get out of this matrix...in the meantime, #MAGA!
