BREAKING: Huge Explosion & Gunfire Reported In Kabul Hours After Deadly Twin Blast
"A massive blast reportedly rocked the Afghan capital, Kabul, late Monday – just hours after two deadly bombs went off near the Afghan Defense Ministry. The latest blast was followed by gunfire, Reuters reports.

The cause of the blast is not yet known, and it is also unknown whether it has caused any casualties so far.

According to news outlet TOLO, the blast reportedly happened in the upscale Share Naw neighborhood, where the Interior Ministry is located."

Re: BREAKING: Huge Explosion & Gunfire Reported In Kabul Hours After Deadly Twin Blast
The loss of senior security personnel suggested that the Taliban had studied the Afghan forces’ response to their assaults. After most attacks in Kabul and the provinces, senior officials —– sometimes even ministers — rush to the scene.

The Taliban’s repeated assaults on well-protected targets at the heart of the capital have added to the pressure on the already burdened security forces. The insurgency is not their only worry in the chaotic city: In addition to regular crime, they have been stretched by street protests as well as skirmishes between rival political groups.

Re: BREAKING: Huge Explosion & Gunfire Reported In Kabul Hours After Deadly Twin Blast
Sediq Sediqqi, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior said the target of the attack was not immediately clear but that two attackers entered a nearby building after the explosion.

Police believe it is is a guest house, possibly accomodating foreigners and diplomats who frequent the district.

Officials said a suicide bomber driving a car laden with explosives was reponsible for the blast but no group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack and the number of casualties was unclear.

It came just hours after a Taliban suicide attack near the defence ministry killed at least 24 people, including an army general and police commanders, and wounded 91 others.
