Here is what I found: ORLANDO, Fla. WFTV asked a local anesthesiologist about what the drug could do to a child. Doctor Ted Noel has used anesthesia to put people to sleep. He is board certified and trained in critical care medicine. While at one time chloroform was commonly used as an anesthetic, Doctor Noel says he would never use it today. In fact, he says doctors stopped using it because it proved to be fatal too many times. "It's quite easy to overdose if you're untrained because you simply don't know how much to give," Noel said. Doctor Noel told WFTV as little as one ounce could kill a child. He said one of its original uses was as a pediatric anesthetic because it has a distinct, but not unpleasant smell.
