Prepare for the worst scenarios. Cool radar loop on the first link. "God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787 |

Prepare for the worst scenarios. Sounds like normal behavior because they can sense the P-waves and react just before a quake. [link to earthquake.usgs.gov] |

Prepare for the worst scenarios. From something I read several years ago now, I remember an article on bird migration and how they have a chemical in a particular brain area that enables them to navigate by geomagnetic fields - this is what they use to migrate back to their original birth place or mating grounds. I'll have to do some searching for that article to see if it is still available online, although I recall reading it in a Nature magazine. The chemical is activated by a particular mineral that their brain either manufactures or obtains through their diet. Anyway, the gist of this is that they can sense geomagnetic changes on the surface, which is how why they take flight before an earthquake occurs. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72924414 You're thinking of the mineral magnetite, and even humans have small amounts of it. We do sense magnetic fields, and some people can sense direction better than others, but it's not a very strong sense in our species. |
