When people talk about the devil, they do not know exactly to what cosmic or psychic reality this word corresponds. The devil does not exist as an individual entity opposed to God and on an equal footing with him. Those people who claim that the devil appeared to them have only imagined it. Spirits of light exist and so do spirits of darkness, and it is this group of evil spirits that we call the devil. The devil does not exist as an entity separate from and opposed to God, but as a collective force that is nourished and reinforced by people's negative thoughts, feelings and actions.

And we can also say that the devil is part of man himself, of his lower self. How was it formed? During his reincarnations man has continuously fed his lower self with his weaknesses and vices, thus blocking the path to heaven. However there exists also in man a luminous entity, his higher self that has been formed with his thoughts, feelings and actions inspired by kindness, generosity, love and sacrifice. So, if people tried hard to restore order to their inner life, the devil would disappear.

"When a certain number of people come together around an idea, their thoughts and desires alone create a living reality. This is a law of the spiritual world. And even if this reality is not made up of particles that are sufficiently material to be seen or touched, it exists, and we call this collective entity an egregor. An egregor is a living and active entity, and each country, each religion, and each philosophical movement has one. The Universal White Brotherhood also has its egregor, and all its members, the brothers and sisters who gather together with the same ideal of peace and light, never stop nourishing and strengthening it. Not only can it then have a positive influence on other egregors in the world but, most of all, it contributes to the evolution of those who have worked to create it. "

When you feel anxious, tormented, link yourself to heaven and pray. For these anxieties and torments are manifestations of evil entities that wish to harm you. But as soon as you link yourself to heaven, they say to themselves, ‘This being uses the most formidable weapon known to us,’ and they are afraid and attempt to flee. When humans pray sincerely, they use the weapons of light, and immediately an invisible cohort approaches: you will hear the quivering of angels’ wings and the retreat of dark entities as they rush to disappear, for they know they will be burned and pulverized. Evil spirits are afraid of one thing only: the light. That is why, whenever there is difficulty or danger, you must immediately link yourself to the Creator and increase the light within you. All the lower beings that are threatening you will be neutralized, paralysed or chased away.

"Those who have chosen darkness always fear light. That is why the élite, such as great spiritual masters, initiates - who work for the evolution of humanity - are always persecuted. Since the two principles of good and evil constantly battle in the world, one who works for the light inevitably provokes forces of darkness. By their word, even by their sole presence, initiates inevitably touch the personal, self-centered and dark interests of people who then counter-attack with all the means at their disposal.

When a great spiritual master comes down to earth to help human beings, he knows beforehand he will be exposed to all kinds of hostile demonstrations from humans - hatred, slander and persecutions - which are intended to prevent the work that it is the master's mission to accomplish. But he never lets himself be discouraged. He continues to work and to shed his love on human beings, even if they are wicked, unconscious, and ungrateful."

"Because human beings have come to consider the forces of evil as invincible adversaries, they are constantly torn in different directions and unable to re-establish the inner unity which gives them the strength and ability to master every situation. You will say: ‘But what can we do? Here we are, caught between the forces of good and evil.'

First of all, realize that you will have this problem to contend with as long as you live on earth. Here is a method for dealing with it: you must learn to respond to the forces of evil, to those entities who want to trap you in their nets, but you must never respond with violence because this only makes them stronger. So when you feel them approaching, in the form of temptation, or negative thoughts or feelings, do not attack them. Tell them you are delighted they have come, welcome them, turn on the lights, lighting all your inner lamps. The visitors will flee because they are ugly, badly dressed, and do not want to be seen. Yes, it is only by means of the light within that you can respond to the spirits of evil. Do not fight them, just carry the light, and thanks to this light you will make steady progress every day along the road to inner unity."

"Much of the suffering you have to endure comes, of course, from outside yourself. And yet, the suffering inflicted on you for which you are not directly responsible is, all the same, partly your responsibility. Why? Because you have not learned how to make yourself immune to it.

If you are so vulnerable, it is because the negative elements sent you by the outside world strike a chord in you. And it may even be that the harm is magnified because of the impurities and darkness you harbour. If you tried to foster purity and light within yourself, not only would the evil be neutralized but the good you receive would become greater, too. Why, yes, if you are unable to really feel the good that comes to you every day from the visible and invisible worlds, it means that all sorts of opaque matter in you are blocking it. You see, then, how repelling evil, as well as attracting and preserving the good, all depend on you."

"Let us suppose that you have been unfortunate enough to swallow some poison. The poison has devastating effects on your body, but as soon as the doctor gives you a powerful antidote you are saved. Because the antidote restores you to your normal state, its effects seem less dramatic to you than those of the poison, which had struck you down. But the antidote is just as powerful; more powerful even because it overcame the poison. And in the same way counterpoison annihilates poison, love eradicates hatred, light eradicates darkness, and good eradicates evil.

Good is as powerful and formidable as evil, but because we find good agreeable, we find its presence normal and devote all our attention to evil. But if you go and ask evil what it thinks of good, it will say: 'Oh, good is terrible! The beatings I've had!' Ask the dark spirits what happens when a spirit of light comes by: they scream and take fright. And because you have not seen this you do not give it another thought. To understand the power of good you need to ask evil."

"There is no better method than love for solving the problems that pit human beings against one another. Unfortunately, few people think to use this method, and moreover they do not believe in its power. To them, force and even violence seem more effective. One day, however, they will have to recognize that love is the most formidable weapon, in the face of which the entire world is obliged to surrender. Confronted with true love, the enemy has no possible means of escape and is eventually vanquished. Arm yourselves, then, with the weapons of love; you will see that no one can resist you or blame you for using them. If you find they are not effective enough, it is because your love is not powerful enough. Strengthen your love, magnify it, and you will see: all will be forced to surrender."
