That pace has fallen some in the first few months of 2016, but remains well above pre-drought levels. Tulare and Fresno are two of the three largest agricultural counties in the state, as measured by farm revenu [link to www.sacbee.com] |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 71433356 United States 10/02/2016 06:13 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Persistent Drought Kills Millions Of Trees In California Forests It sucks the moisture out of the soil. It sucks the moisture out of the tree itself and gets sucked up into the atmosphere. It causes oxygen to bubble out of the water that's inside the trees and actually creates a sort of an embolism inside the tree, and they choke. And finally it causes the trees to close the little holes in their leaves, the stomata in their needles in their leaves, and that's how they breathe. But once they close those off, they can't take in CO2, carbon dioxide, and they starve to death. [link to www.npr.org] |

The trees, soil, water are at critical mass.No matter the amount of rain, and it is not as bad where I am on the East Coast, the trees are so dry and dehydrated, they're drinking in rain water but the aluminum is killing them. Also I have seen the black goo on the trees as well as various molds, green, white and black-AGAIN from chemtrails. |

It used pollen from Eastern California lake beds, among other things, to show that there was a correlation between temperatures in the Eastern Pacific and droughts in Cal. THAT THERE WAS A MEGADROUGHT BETWEEN 8,000 years ago and 3,000 years ago. A 5,000 year drought in CALIFORNIA. Oh Boy. ======= I love Ponderosa. The 30 footer that we planted in our backyard gets plenty of watering. Love that tree that was planted by my son. |

Have lost several trees in the last 3/4 years. It's very bad here on the East Coast. |

Ponderosas are exceptionally drought tolerant. I have 3 dead or dying on my property along with several large old Arizona Junipers another drought tolerant tree. I am able to water them and the water table is only 20 feet. So it can't possibly be drought alone. |

Captain Spaulding User ID: 72029500 United States 10/02/2016 10:11 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I hope that 3,500 yr old Ponderosa Pine in nor Cal keep living. The giant Redwoods take their moisture from the air. Each one about 1,000 gallons a day. Driving through the Avenue of the Giants is magical (and in the early fall smells *interesting*). I lived in Arcata, Humboldt County for a year, returning a year ago and my dog and I hiked the Redwoods several times a week. There's something powerful about walking among those giants. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 46292536 United States 10/02/2016 10:12 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | We're losing a lot of trees in Colorado too. Up in the mountains there are large areas being cleared out by pine beetles and fires. It's happening faster than they can grow back. On the front range I am seeing a lot of the old cottonwoods dying off but new ones aren't growing. I think this state will begin to look more like Nevada soon. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71607539 I travel back and forth between AZ and CO often. Wolf Creek Pass, around the ski resort, I would say the pine is 80 to 90 percent dead from the infestation. When (not "if") that area catches a lighting strike, it going be very difficult to control. |

Quoting: Goofy for God I live in Ventura, Southern Cal. I have been so distressed this summer as I watch beautiful old trees slowly dying of thirst. Beautiful young plants too, but it's the old trees that just tear me up. I also worry for the wildlife, considering we've just had a week of record-breaking temps and desert-like heat and humidity. Prayers are much much appreciated. |
