The "AI" (skynet) doesn't have to actually exist yet to "operate" -- in 3D space gravity pulls objects together, with the mass of the larger one influencing the smaller one into its orbit. The same effect happens in 4D way too. The odds of a super intelligence existing is so high in "parallel" realities, our timeline gets pulled into orbit and eventual coalescence with the greater mass/energy superintelligence set of timelines.
