11-year-old Ohio girl who survived brain cancer kills herself over relentless bullying
CABLE, Ohio – The relentless bullying became too much to handle for an 11-year-old girl with a “crooked” smile, her mother said.

At 3 years old Bethany Thompson was diagnosed with a brain tumor and battled through radiation treatments. Though cancer-free since 2008, treatment caused nerve damage that changed Bethany’s smile. That, and her curly hair, led to bullying, said Bethany’s mother, Wendy Feucht.

Feucht said after a particularly tough Wednesday with bullies, Bethany told her best friend she couldn’t take it anymore, and was going to take her own life.

The Cable, Ohio, sixth grader killed herself that afternoon, October 19.

Her friend’s father called Bethany’s mom, but it was too late. Bethany found one of the two guns kept in the house, and shot herself just minutes after getting home. Her stepfather was asleep in another room.

Feucht said Bethany would have had to go searching for a weapon, as she and her husband never told their children where they were and kept the guns out of sight.

“There’s a piece missing, I’ve had this constant in my life for 12 years and now it’s gone,” Feucht said. “Nothing’s going to be able to fill that hole.”

I'll never understand why a victim would kill themselves and not the bully. I was bullied without mercy from age 7 to 16. Never once did I think of killing me. I got determined to kill them. Eventually I took some shots at my bully and barely missed him. Never saw him again and no one picked on me. Ever again.

There is no excuse for suicide we have to do a better job teaching the word of god to our children and let them know what awaits them if they take their own life. If they thought the bullying was bad before wait till they get to the other side. Satan is the ultimate bully. Life is to precious to take the easy way out.

Someone should have helped her at the damn school, and the parents should have paid more attention to her depression. I don't know why some children are born to have such short and difficult lives. I hope she is in a better place.

Everyone says high school is bad. I found Middle school to be much worse. Most teachers are scum as well. Lots of them are immature adults that play to the crowd approval of the students. I've seen lots of teachers turn a blind eye, and even join in on bullying to get student approval.

When Columbine happened. i didn't condone it, but I understood it.

It should probably be legal to shoot people for bullying in America.

Self defence.. Don't see why it should be different to any other violent attack.

Many schools have well publicized campaigns against bullying and do a great job of putting a stop to the bullshit and torment. Need to be in ALL schools.

There's a mob mentality to bullying that crosses over from kid world to adult world. Its like a stench that sticks to you. Everyone seems to sense it and join in, in different ways. It's not a bordered event. This girl probably had no peace. I'm sure the adults in this story didn't have the same morale nobility presented in the article.

Trust me the parents weren't ideal. If the girl grabbed their gun and blew her head off, like described. If she was truly happy with her parents she would have made considerations for them. She hated them as much as the kids. Trust me.

Bethany saw a counselor to help her find coping mechanisms and deal with her struggles with self-esteem, Fuecht said.

Having the support of friends wasn’t enough to keep the bullying away, however, and some boys in her class were known to bully Bethany and others regularly, Feucht said.

Bethany and her friend went to administrators with anti-bullying posters on Bethany’s last day at school, and were told they couldn’t be used, Feucht said.

They made signs with anti-bullying slogans like “Buddies, not bullies,” she said.

My bully didn't stop until I smacked his skull into a locker. I got in trouble for it, but the bullying stopped. This after a years worth of documented instances of reporting his ass to teachers, and nothing happened. Schools are fucking useless.

Go with god child and know that you are loved.

I read this yesterday. So sad, kids fucking suck. It is the parents too, I agree. I would have never treated another human being like this at any age. I had a great parent though so I am lucky I guess. Also I'm older, seems the younger generation has no respect for anything.

I'm no psychologist but I agree with you.
I bet her parents treated her as if she was a burden instead of truly supporting her after the battle with cancer.
I know, I personally would never have committed suicide just for the fact of how bad it would hurt my parents. I believe that if her parents were close to her and really showed her a parents love, she would have never crossed the murder line.
Very sad

Gosh this really hit me hard, Because I know the feeling of hopelessness, especially at that age. I tried and almost succeeded to commit suicide at 14. Because of my circumstances as well... GOSH THIS KILLS ME!
