Instead of having the insurance, what if you saved all the money you spend on the premiums, and paid the doctor/dentist in cash? Would that work?

In fact, that is how my wife and I used to do things before a couple years back and it worked out perfectly. Just changing circumstances forcing our hand for the moment.
