Instead of having the insurance, what if you saved all the money you spend on the premiums, and paid the doctor/dentist in cash? Would that work?

In fact, that is how my wife and I used to do things before a couple years back and it worked out perfectly. Just changing circumstances forcing our hand for the moment. See the problem is that Doctors really don't want to see patients who don't have insurance do to the fact that they over charge and make more money fleecing the companies with nickel and dime shit that a normal people would question plus the Government will soon be charging an arm and a leg in penalties for those who don't have insurance.
