I had a Spanish teacher back in the '70s who was a successful lawyer in Cuba before Castro took over. He told us a lot of first hand stories of what went on, and he and his wife had everything stolen by the Castro regime. They took their house and cars, cleaned out the bank account and gave them about $100 in the new currency. They eventually got out of Cuba with only the clothes on their backs but were happy to get out. Every Friday he would tell us stories about how fucked Cuba was after Castro came to power. |
