I've read somewhere that the "gold, frankincense and myrrh"
were actually *Turmeric* (gold colored), frankincense and myrrh.
Reason they were given to the baby was to keep it in good health, as these 3 'spices' have the ability to prevent/ward off/cure nearly everything.

I agree 100% Good stuff, all of them. Frankincense was once prized above real gold.
