What's the best configuration of letters to describe a wolf's howl.
I am trying to be creative and the a-oooo seems a bit over done!

Anyone got any suggestions?

This brings back memories of some wolf man video where wolf man describes that each wolf has his own Ahhwoooa, then he does his own Wahoooa. He was the pack leader.

I've never met an animal that tried to talk more than a Husky.

Re: What's the best configuration of letters to describe a wolf's howl.
I saw a werewolf with a Chinese menu in his hand
Walking through the streets of Soho in the rain
He was looking for a place called Lee Ho Fook's
Gonna get a big dish of beef chow mein

Aaoooooo!
Werewolves of London!
Aaoooooo! (Repeat)

If you hear him howling around your kitchen door
Better not let him in
Little old lady got mutilated late last night
Werewolves of London again

Aaoooooo!
Werewolves of London!
Aaoooooo! (Repeat)

He's the hairy-handed gent who ran amuck in Kent
Lately he's been overheard in Mayfair
Better stay away from him
He'll rip your lungs out, Jim
I'd like to meet his tailor

Aaoooooo!
Werewolves of London!
Aaoooooo! (Repeat)

Well, I saw Lon Chaney walking with the Queen
Doing the Werewolves of London
I saw Lon Chaney, Jr. walking with the Queen
Doing the Werewolves of London
I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's
And his hair was perfect

Aaoooooo!
Werewolves of London!
Aaoooooo! (Repeat)
Draw blood...

Unless it's for a comic book or a children's book, I don't recommend doing that as a writer's choice.

Just use the word "howl" or one of its other synonyms like "bay".

What you are suggesting is cartoonish, unless that's your intention.

I take your point. Is onomatopoeia so frowned on, I suppose so when I think, like the sound of a man falling. Yeah I do take you point.

Here is my short story, its 4500 words or so. I took the advice of a poster and didn't cartoon the howl.
