Senate Republicans successfully BLOCK debate on Iraq resolution LIEBERMAN VOTES AGAINST WITH REPUBS-HIS VOTE KILLS IT
You just knew when he was re-elected as an independent with the Republican party backing him--it would not happen.

BUSH can now skate along merrily and continue his policy in Iraq.

Senate Republicans successfully block debate on Iraq resolution

After being assailed by Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid for being "driven by a desire to provide political cover for President Bush," the Republican Leadership in the Senate succeeded in preventing debate on a resolution that criticized President George W. Bush's escalation plan for Iraq.

After a vote of 49-47 to invoke cloture, Democratic Senators failed to encourage enough Republicans to cross the aisle and end a filibuster that blocked debate on Republican-Democratic compromise between Armed Services Committee Chairman Dick Levin and Ranking Member John Warner.

Reid addressed his Republican colleagues harshly.

"We’ve seen politics in this war before. Politics gave us the “Mission Accomplished” banner. Politics gave us a Vice President who said the insurgency was in its “last throes.” Politics gave us a Defense Secretary who promised America the enemy was just a few “dead-enders” who would be stamped out in days.

"We’ve had enough politics. For years into this war, what we need is a strategy that will succeed in Iraq," he said.

He had earlier remarked "The President must hear from Congress, so he knows he stands in the wrong place, alone. A loud, bipartisan message from this Body will give him another opportunity to listen… to listen and change course to a plan to gives our troops the best chance for success."

Senator Joseph Lieberman, the Connecticut Independent who caucuses with Senate Democrats, voted against cloture, and explained why he opposed allowing a full debate and vote on the resolution........................

All of this is really just bull shit no matter how you write it down.

The vote is 49-47. That is about 50/50 along partisan lines. The nation is split 50/50.

All your "America Hates Bush" and all the rest of it, is really only on GLP and is crap.

Reagan had it worse, with respect to votes and guess what,,,the Dems still didnt get their way.

Anyone who thinks that the Dems are in control and can do whatever they want needs to take a civics class at night school and get a grip on how the process works.

Ya know?

My point WAS/IS that he voted on the side of Bush. If his vote did not snuff it,and it did not,it shows that he came down on the side of Bush and business as usual.

If there was ONE THING these politicos should debate ot should be the risking of more lives--esp when the elections drove out so manyn incumbents--BUT POLITICS AS USUAL

Hey dumb ass, the Democrats are now in control of the Senate, or did you already forget that. In other words both the majority(Democrats) and the minority(Republicans) voted for a resolution repudiating the decision to send 21,500 more troops to Iraq. Unfortunately, for the Dims, the resolution the Dims started FAILED to advance in the Senate today after the Dims promised their uneducated sheeple they would see a change once they came to power. Face the facts morons, you have been played like a fiddle once again. Geesh, you people are dumb.

WASHINGTON - A bipartisan resolution repudiating President Bush's decision to send 21,500 more troops to Iraq failed to advance in the Senate Monday, dealing a serious setback to critics of the war.

The resolution needed 60 votes before the 100-member Senate could begin debate, but it got 49, with 47 voting against. Although it would not have been binding on the president, the measure was the first serious effort in Congress to confront Bush over the unpopular Iraq war.

The president's call to send additional American troops, mostly to Baghdad, is widely seen as a last chance to quell the sectarian violence ravaging the capital and surrounding regions.

Hey, Had he voted any other way, it would have been news. No one in the country thought he would vote any other way.

It was his entire platform and reason for breaking away from the anti-war Dems.

Payback is sweet baby cakes!
