[ link to www.express.co.uk] A survey shows millennials are missing out on practical skills such as map reading or fishing, compared to their grandparents’ generation. More than half of young adults were unable to tie a single knot and 40 per cent had never swum in open water, despite Britain being an island nation. The poll, conducted ahead of the London Boat Show, found simple life skills have been left behind with advances in technology. Researchers also found that most people under the age of 44 prefer to use Google Maps and Sat Navs to get around, but half of over-55s stick to a paper street map. Just a third of the 2,000 surveyed know how to spark a flame by natural means, with less than a third having caught their own fish or seafood. They spent their childhoods either at school, or glued to a TV; what do you expect? Even though I played hard outside as a kid/teern, I'm now 30 years old; my dad is a mechanic and he never showed me a thing about cars. I had to teach myself to change the brake pads. He did instill a lot of negativity in me however, coming home and drinking before often going into mentally abusive rampages. I believe I hate working more than most people because of him as well. When I was young he would often ask me if I wanted to go to work for him today; I would say no but I never told him why. It was because of how tired/angry he would be when he got off; why would I want that? Anyways... berating such a generation isn't helping anyone; not that those who do so give a fuck really. Perhaps if previous generations weren't such utter sell-outs we might be better off. By all means take NO personal accountability; it's easy to drift when you have no rudder. Until there's a rapids ahead. Unless you're blaming the children for their inadequacies involving how they were raised; then its all good to blame them? I stated facts in how I was raised, not trying to play a blame game anyways. Besides; I worked for 4 years in a factory. One hundred degree building in the summer wearing arm guards, pants, steel toes, gloves, safety glasses and ear plugs. Lifting forty pound units nine hours a day sixty three hours a week. Any other job that I do now is a BREEZE but I still hate it; I could be working at home on my garden/orchard and building my own house from wood I chop myself. I could be sharing fresh vegetables and fruits with my neighbors. Instead; I gotta work just to pay rent and land taxes. Just so that kids can get a sub-par 'education' and just so that a large portion of the population can just leech off the system. I could smell the BS in my mid-teens.
