Even though I played hard outside as a kid/teern, I'm now 30 years old; my dad is a mechanic and he never showed me a thing about cars. I had to teach myself to change the brake pads.

He did instill a lot of negativity in me however, coming home and drinking before often going into mentally abusive rampages.

I believe I hate working more than most people because of him as well. When I was young he would often ask me if I wanted to go to work for him today; I would say no but I never told him why. It was because of how tired/angry he would be when he got off; why would I want that?

Anyways... berating such a generation isn't helping anyone; not that those who do so give a fuck really. Perhaps if previous generations weren't such utter sell-outs we might be better off.

Yeah, when you're dealing with city folk, sure. Most millenials out in the country grow up with skills most city kids will never have. It is the nature of their environment. Cities are nothing more than open air insane asylums.

Well you're pointing out the obvious OP... But its a needless skill in this age. You dont need to be able to start a friction fire, its generally a big waste of time..
The chances of you needing to make stone tools, bow hunt, or friction fires are LOW so not a good choice to pursue, unless you like it as a hobby.

Quit blaming your upbringing. If my mother did that, she'd have ended up like every one of her siblings...drunk, on welfare and in an abusive relationship and abusing us. I stated facts in how I was raised, not trying to play a blame game anyways.

Besides; I worked for 4 years in a factory. One hundred degree building in the summer wearing arm guards, pants, steel toes, gloves, safety glasses and ear plugs. Lifting forty pound units nine hours a day sixty three hours a week.

Any other job that I do now is a BREEZE but I still hate it; I could be working at home on my garden/orchard and building my own house from wood I chop myself. I could be sharing fresh vegetables and fruits with my neighbors.

Instead; I gotta work just to pay rent and land taxes. Just so that kids can get a sub-par 'education' and just so that a large portion of the population can just leech off the system.

It's not; in the old days it was common for father and son to build hot-rods. If they didn't build those; then back in the day their fathers would be ashamed if their kid couldn't do such a simple thing at the age of twenty.

A whole bunch of that generation are hopelessly unprepared.

As a man you can go one of two ways and succeed. You can make a lot of money and pay other people to put your car batteries on, change flats, build sheds, mow the yard, reinstall your operating system, etc.

Or you can do most of that stuff yourself and save a bunch of money.

If you can't manage one of the two above ways then you are pretty much fucked.

Survival skills are always relevant. Being oblivious to your surroundings is no excuse nor does it make it any less true.

Bad parenting exasperates the problem. People aren't learning skills because they don't have anyone to teach them or don't even know they exist. Young people have got to wake up enough to seek it on their own.
