Re: Help me with pain from surgery, please please please
pain sucks. But after my SECOND open heart surgery,,,sternum split from my neck to nearly my belly button..I woke up after a coma lasting several days, Two chest tubes, tube in my neck, on a ventilator for a week, being forced into respiratory therapy blowing a bubble,,,which I could not do..having someone wipe my ass...a catheter up my dick to piss. Bathed by an Indian nurse who had fun making me groan...vacuum stuck down the ventilator to get crap out of my lungs..4 months of work..Once I got out of the hospital I forced myself to ignore the pain and do not take pain killers.

Kinda make you appreciate the meds...and those who can not afford them. 4 years later,I am glad I had the fortitude to do it..

jus put the pain out or your mind...focus on something else

Re: Help me with pain from surgery, please please please
I got bad apnea somehow, maybe similarly
I was all fucked up enough before hand
it really took shittyness to a higher level of insanity
destroyed my sleep
was some kind of spider or tick bite
I'll never fkn know and these medical people are .....(add every profanity combination)
then the system took absolutely forever and a day
currently going through distress and trauma cause they've taken an entire year and a half since my machine broke
a shitty made in china switch that should never have broken
(they used to make switches you could click forever, I had one, it lived in my lego box, you could click that thing a thousand times as fast and hard as you wanted, beat it, was never going to break, now everything is made of egg shells and rice paper)
still haven't fixed it, have done nothing but waste time and money sending me all over, demanding paperwork, and inspections, 100 phone calls, and haven't done a goddamned thing. Meanwhile the machine is jury rigged to power bar to turn it on and off, plus it's not set right, works ok then slows down too much and wont allow enough air during sleep, so I'm dying anyway, probably made for a tiny little Chinamans lung capacity

I always had a bit of apnea
now its making me go retarded
I lay down and in 5 mins my nose is completely closed, can't even get to sleep trying to breath through my mouth so I'm dependant on my machine
o r I stay awake until I go unconscious
and it's ruined my life
I aint doing no operations, these people are fkn idiots
eventually I will find and kill God for this and a great many other acts of gross negligence

maybe try injecting painkillers or opioids
you can always go on methadone later
don't blame me if you get jacked by a dealer or busted or hooked for life, or divorced from the personality changes, or broke from the expense.

Stop eating and don't drink anything but water for 5 days. Don't take any medication while fasting. If your doctor says its not safe to go without your medication then don't do any fasting. NEVER take medication while fasting. Your body will habituate to the medication. If you are fasting and take medication, stop your fast and start eating again.

After 3-5 days your nervous system should normalize and the pain should go away. You should be able to fast for at least two weeks without any problem if you want to.

7 year medical attendant here, studying to become a Psyciatrist that sub specs in pain management and addiction medicine.

I have had patients, including myself who could just not get out of pain, or just had no way of getting treated. Some even decided there was too much pain and well, they are with God now.

You need to go talk to your PCP about getting into Pain Management and you need to let them know how bad it has become. If even a single suicidal thought comes into your head? You tell your doctor that the pain is so critically bad that you are beginning to get ideations even though you don't want to do anything stupid AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

For the short term, if you are not allergic or on anything that will interact negatively with this, take it. It has saved my life many a time, and has actually prevented suicides in a few of my patients.

300mg Dextromethorphan Hbr. The dose is low enough that you won't start tripping or have any intoxicant effects, it will boost your mood very high due to it's actions on Serotonin, it'll numb your entire body due to it's disassociative effect and you will still be able to function normally. They have a medication that is DXM's bigger, stronger brother called Levorphanol. Talk to your doctor about it, and remember, You are in pain, you have every RIGHT to get out of pain, opiates or not you raise hell if they try and give you the "Talk"

Feel better.

The same Great Physician who said he is no respect or if person and that he has done for one , he will do for another! The same Great Physician who said his ear is not shortened that it cannot hear and his hand is not shortened that it cannot heal!!

Stay away from pain management!!! From someone who knows and broke away from that system after 16 years... and TRUST ME MY PAIN SPECIALIST DID NOT WANT ME OFF MY PAIN MEDS.... She wouldn't help me wean down so I did it myself, off the one drug stronger than heroin to get off of, and I've never felt BETTER!!! My own sister is an MD. I know how they are indoctrinated!!! I haven't taken the time to read all of your responses but as someone who suffers from neurogenic pain I urge you to do some research on Ketamine infusions and low dose naltrexone. Low dose naltrexone has helped me tremendously. I will post a few links for you. God bless you, I know you are suffering terribly.

Re: Help me with pain from surgery, please please please
It has been 30 days since I had bi-max MMA surgery to fix a topological defect in my airway. The procedure is defined by the detachment and re-attachment of the upper and lower mandible, after moving both forward a set distance and the reattching them with titanium plates and screws. In my case it was ~ 12mm. It has, thank God, well and truly cured my sleep apnea. I was averaging 70 episodes per hour in which I would hold my breath for 30 seconds or longer.

I was dying a little bit every night. Imagine seeing a coffin instead of a bed...

The procedure required my face to be peeled back from inside my mouth. During the procedure my surgeon noticed my nostril airways were also constricted and bored them out with some kind of roto-rooter bone burr saw and then sewed all the skin back together.

I was bitten by a black widow on a nerve plexus in my left arm about a decade ago. I thought that was the most pain a person could endure. It literally slowed my perception of the passage of time it was so intense. That was nothing, I now clearly see.

I have developed atypical neuralgia in my maxillary v2 and mandibular v3 branches off my trigeminal nerve.

I close my eyes and can see the skin peeling back from my lips and chin as it is turned to ash by intense heat and fire, only to regenerate and it starts all over again. That is juxtaposed with the sensation that the skin is covered by constantly agitating and bursting pustules cause by exposure to acid or some biological agent. It absolutely has not stopped since the surgery, not even for a moment, and today is the worst day yet.

I fear walking too fast because the wind of my passage, on my face, is an inferno. Baby spoons are made of Constantino wire. The whiskers of my dogs are electrified whips.

The prognosis is good, they say, as I have recovered some feeling in the areas that were so abused by the surgery, but the possibility of 5 more months of this has despair folding me into the dark abyss of its clawed, leathery wings.

Re: Help me with pain from surgery, please please please
You should not be in this much pain especially without it being managed. This can easily cause stroke or even acute heart palpitations. Not questioning but not too sure why any surgeon would do so much at one time especially in an area where nerves are so closely woven and the slightest mishap can cause so many problems ranging from eating disorders to different types of palsy. I would demand pain management even if you need to be hospitalized because it' sounds like you are experiencing hallucinations from the agony.
If you've never had any documented addiction or drug abuse then the only reason these doctors don't want to prescribe heavy duty pain meds is they don't want to file extra documents with their insurance. This is no excuse period for your pain to continue.

Praying for you right now.

I still have the orthodontics, which are exacerbating the problem. They come out in 2 weeks to be replaced by normal orthodontics.

I am currently in Pain management, taking ~2000mg Gabpentin/day. It is completely ineffectual.

I am not having suicidal thoughts, I am just on the edge of despair.

I see the surgeon tomorrow, pain doc Monday.

Thanks for your advice, I appreciate it.

As to the Dextromethorphan, I have a bottle of vertussin (codeine suspension)

How does that compare?
 Quoting: Apocalypse Troll

I feel you, man... Gabpentin was absolutely worthless for me too. Over the years, I've tried a whole pharmacy's worth o pain killers... and what has worked best for me is the 15 mg. oxycodone, 4 times a day. PUT along with one of the most abused drugs in the country is the stigma of taking such drugs.

But those things are ridiculously difficult to manage. If you're on them for any period of time, I grantee they'll cause you problems.

In the first part of March, I go begin this treatment where they burn the nerves and that deadened the pain for up to two years. Don't know ow they'd apply it to you, but I'm sure they do...

Good luck

Re: Help me with pain from surgery, please please please
OP, the trigeminal clearly was damaged during the surgery. It was almost unavoidable in your case; it can be damaged even during routine oral surgery. Typical synthetic opioid pain killers don't do much for damaged nerve pain, as you're seeing.

You need to get on top of this pronto, or it could become a permanent pain situation -chronic neuralgia, and all its attendant issues. Need to reverse the neural pathway of the pain ASAP. And it *can* be healed.

Do this:

Get Benfotiamine, 300 mg. Take one twice a day, every single day.

Get *SUB LINGUAL* methylcobalamin, 5000 mcg. Not cyanocobalamin; it is far less bio-available. Dissolve one under your tongue every single day.

This combination will vastly accelerate healing of the damaged nerve, putting a stop to the neural-brain path. Clinical studies (not widely reported in this country, cuz big pharma would rather sell their drugs) bear this out. Have myself observed the healing of a doctor-predicted permanent neuralgic problem in someone who followed the protocol. Pretty amazing.

Just do this, along with the DMSO. It at least won't harm you, and I feel certain it will help. BTW, stay far far away from anything containing acetaminophen. It is notorious for causing chemical-induced hepatitis.

My sincerest sympathies, and God speed! Please try the protocol.

GLP has power because the members believe.

Please send me healing thoughts and prayers, I beg you.

God damn dude, thats some serious shit. Good luck

In all seriousness, your best bet is legit narcotics from the dr and medical marijuana to deal with the side effects and also help with the pain.

Get the pain under control, dont waste time trying to avoid the pain meds, you will heal faster if you manage the pain rather than tough it out, or waste too much time trying to find some alternative.

Turmerics, capsicums, theres all kinds of pain relief stuff, but for something that serious, its time for some form of opiate

...please get to an acupuncturist asap... you have severely blocked meridians caused by the surgery...

In the meantime, rub castor oil on, and massage the insides of your wrists...

My surgeon will write me a referral / script for acupuncture tomorrow.

I agree that will give me the greatest relief. I must manage the cause, not the symptoms. DMSO and opiates and Kratom and Tylenol are all fine and good, but pain is a symptom.

The source of pain, the raw, tortured nerves that are like guitar strings wound to breaking and being played manically, those must be soothed and urged to repair themselves and their electrical flow.

With the exception of time, nothing else will do that as well as acupuncture.

Re: Help me with pain from surgery, please please please
Whenever I've had the occasion to suffer unbearable pain I take whatever pain meds they will give me to get over the hump. But after a few days I start extending the time between doses. Maybe an extra 15 minutes, then a half hour til it can be managed with OTC stuff. I'm terrified of getting addicted to anything. Watched my sister spiral out of control on prescription drugs and alcohol. I'm surprised she's still alive.

Pain is always worse in the beginning til you learn how to somewhat get use to it. Think of it this way, if you can read this, that is a few minutes you weren't concentrating on your pain. Do whatever you have to do to try and distract yourself. Hope you start getting some relief.

The DMSO and all your fantastic positive energy has cut the pain on my chin by about 1/2, thank God. I can live with a camp fire after 30 days of rocket engine.

I'm going to put it on my lips now and try to smile for the first time in a month.

I truly believe we have power when we work together for good.

There is more than one GLP effect...

I suffer chronic pain - don't discount the relief a really good hard bitch session will bring. I am a serious - I have taken more than one trip to the ER at the VA - and in addition to the Torodol shot they give me have used that trip as a psychological method of dumping, complaining, bitching and pitching a fit about my pain with the intention to at least try and leave some of my psychological distress about it behind when I leave.

Sometimes that helps a little -
