Any vets or vet techs on thins morning? Need help with sick fur kid (Garage Kitty)
Garage Kitty is 10-12 months old, medium haired cat that was abandoned and I rescued. Has done great for the month she has been here all until tonight where she has developed a bad left hip limp. Leg appears to be out of socket, any suggestions on reducing the joint?

cats usually dont limp for no reason
and they dont fall and hurt limbs like people do

sounds like someone booted it

the fact that its limping means it must be damn sore
cats have a very high pain threshold and dont usually show any pain unless its severe

Yea, guess I'll start calling vets in a few hours and see who will help and not burn my ass too bad. I have a soft spot for animals and she has imprinted on me so it's up to me to help her.

She was all good when I brought her to my room tonight, I let her out to go potty while I had a cigarette and when I called for her she came back limping. I never heard a commotion so I'm kinda baffled.

Thank you all for your replies and suggestions! She's laying next to me, actually sleeping for the moment. I'm so used to being able to fix it repair things that when someone i care for is sick or ailing it kills me because I can't help. I have a big heart and I'm quite an empath.

I doubt there's much you can do before seeing a vet. If she's resting that's good. Best of wishes for kitty...

Did you check her paws, and toes to see if maybe she stepped on glass or a burr- maybe she has something in her foot.

Re: Any vets or vet techs on thins morning? Need help with sick fur kid (Garage Kitty)
My vet gave me Tramadol for my cat after I had her fixed, so if you have access to any of that for humans, it's the same stuff. Just cut down the typical 50 mg pill appropriately.

Excerpt from [link to www.vasg.org]

Cats are dosed at 2-4 mg/kg (generally ¼ of a 50 mg tablet) BID (a few cats may become profoundly dysphoric and agitated). Metabolism is principally via hepatic biotransformation, with a small amount excreted unchanged by the kidneys. Side effects, though rare, may include GI upset and sedation.

A 7 lb cat is ~3.2 kg, so at 4mg/kg, you are looking at ~13 mg per dose, or ~1/4 pill.

I have had ones survive that yet walked with a limp and their back ends staying smooshed in like that. If you can't get vet help just put food/water and litterbox near, keep warm n cozy and on a comfy bed. Kitty may recover. I agree that it may have been kicked, unfortunately. Bastards, eh?

Bump for kitty. He should be in good paws with some of the experts here.

I've got a couple of tips for you, Blackhawk.
I worked at a cat rescue years back and I've seen
lots of "problem health issues" with cats.

1. The vet is the best way to go...they can do an
Xray to see if the kitty has a joint problem or has
actually a fracture of some kind.

2. REmember when handling an injured cat--or any animal
that you suspect may have a bone injury--WEAR HEAVY
GLOVES when you transfer the pet into a pet carrier or
box. Tho the cat may KNOW you are trying to help, they
can and DO bite when the injury site is disturbed.

I made a big mistake of cradling a cat who had a
temporary pin in its hip that CAME LOOSE and the end
of the pin went into the muscle when I applied a little
pressure getting her into the cat carrier. She bit my
hand and I almost lost my whole arm from blood poisoning.
Even tho cats are SMALL and seem like they can't do any
great injury--their mouths are extremely germie and
infections from their bites are very common.

So please be careful for both of your sakes.

3. Cats and dogs can have different kinds of conditions
just like humans have--like arthritis or muscle-pulls.
Could be minor...but might be something bigger. So it
is always a good idea to not just "let it go" but see
a vet right away.

4. DO NOT give cats or dogs human pain killers. Aspirin
can be very harmful for cats. Do a little online searching
and you'll find this to be the general opinion. These guys
have their OWN pain meds that are made for their weight
and species.

Good luck! Remember...wear gloves!!

Cheers!
