The average person speaks at a rate of about 150 words per minute, but I can read at a rate of 500 words per minute. So it's more expedient for me to read a transcript than watch a video. If it's sparse text, I only need a one glance per page. It's kind of a mental snapshot to give me a general idea of each paragraph's content. Then, if a second reading is required, I focus more on the paragraphs I've flagged mentally as important. Most of the time, I remember (and can recite) the important bits after the first reading, though. My former boss used to tell me "No, read it properly! It's important!" until he realized that I really do absorb written information that fast. In comparison, watching a video is like slogging through mud. Also all these clowns out there thinking they are extravaganza film producers with the Holly8wood intro score...OH PLEASE!! Just get to the damn point already.Someone also mentioned how horrible a lot of them sound in the narrations--take a damn class on public speaking.Every slob out there thinks they are a REAL LIVE video journalist. In between the videos that are little more than 'filler'there are some SUPERB videos,concise..full of information MEAT and beautifully produced,however these are the jewels amidst a lot of carnival glass. |
