People have very odd ideas about what satellites are capable of. Most of them can only transmit a signal less than a 100 watt bulb. There is no real bandwidth from birds, people in the bush have been getting their internet from satellites for 15 years now but at a trickle down less than dial-up for the most part and relying on dial-up for the upload.

Birds that are *relaying* channels of tv or whatever are a completely different animal. You can't compare the two at all. People really take for granted the mind boggling amount of packets your average home router is juggling around.

Interesting topic. Could be that they are just
getting more sophisticated equipment employed for
emergency communications--that it isn't being done
SPECIFIC to anticipated coming emergencies. But,
who knows?
