Almost sober from alcohol for 2 years. My experience |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 72184781 Canada 01/11/2017 11:28 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Almost sober from alcohol for 2 years. My experience Well I'll be sober for 2 years in a few months, it's been a he'll of a experience. So if any ones try to quit this is how it went for me 1 to 6 months is full of shaking and confusion at least for me. I was a bad alcoholic before I quit, shakes and bad withdrawals if I didn't drink, my short term memory was shot couldn't remember a thing, crazy depression and anxiety, I would have these days were I could just feel the damage is did to my brain. I would get super light headed, and couldn't think straight. And I didn't deal with stress and pressure very well,
6 months to a year was just as hard. I began to emotionally come back to life and that was the hardest I had to feel everything I was drinking away, it was awful, my body got sick very easily, had the most colds and flues of my entire life in this period. I was super weak as well body had no athletic ability lost weight, no coordination at all,
1 year was when I begin to see positive things happening. I began to feel natural joy for the first time in years, and able to enjoy hobbies without a buzz, still going through ups and downs all the time my emotions where still all over the place. But my brain fog had lifted and I was able to concentrate for long periods of time,
1 year and a half I finally felt normal again, we're I can live and not but a emotional wreck. Just a normal person again I guess, living with real passion again. Married and have a business. So for anyone out there trying to get on track, you can do it and you will come back. Just put your trust in God and go for it cheers |

Good job OP!! Congrats on your new-found joy. Just don't ever get too confident in your recovery, we'll always be addicts, but we don't have to be addicted. I've tried to share my recovery with others suffering in the same way. Makes me feel better about some of the terrible things I've done to my body. Addiction can be beat, it's mind over matter. Once again kudos my friend, many people never make it to two years sober!! Deplorable and proud of It!! Trump 2024 MAGAA |

If you continue to stay sober in your mind and spirit as well as your body, it will continue to get better. Remember always that abstinence is not always sobriety. True sobriety is a state of mind. LOL Excellent Good to hear something positive in here for a change. Enjoy your Pink Cloud. But remember sometimes they have a trap door which a sober person can fall through. At six months I was a walking miracle. At 9 months I ended up in cardiac intensive care. At a year and a half I was told I was dying and there was nothing they could do. But... I didn't drink and didn't die. However the great love of my life of several years did die a few months later. To be honest at that point I could not come up with a Reason to stay sober or go on living. But I did. As for God (lol) I could not believe that there was a loving god who gave a flying F-word. And I wandered around in a spiritual desert for a year or so. But then at the start of the L-word Prayer one night. I heard a woman say "Our Mother who art in heaven, Marylyn be thy name." After which I cornered her and ask what the "H" she was talking about. And she said that she thought that Marylyn Monroe was as close to a Goddess as that century was ever going to see...... I went to Marylyn's cript twice a week and ask her for help for 5 years. And learned that what ever runs the universe doesn't care what Ya call it as long as Ya Call !!! This spring I will hopefully have stayed a live and sober for 35years. As of today it has been 12,692 days. Also, I have a had an amazing journey through life ! |
