Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 59686777 United States 02/04/2017 12:17 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | According to NASA website info, all Apollo moon landings are done at moon's morning. The sun is about 13 degree above the horizon. Therefore if an object is 1 m tall its shadow should be over 4 m long on flat ground. I found some short shadows in every mission, here are time marks and video links, you be the judge. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 59686777 3.33 look their shadows, impossible under morning sun. 3.50 the dancer's shadow shows the sun is over head. not morning sun. 3.55 the rope is waving in the wind. 4.06 shadow becomes so long, why? 4.39 his shadow shows the sun is over head. 2.56 shadows of the man and rock show the sun is over head. impossible for morning moon. 12.36 shadows show the sun is about 60 degree up. 23.31 his shadow is way too short. the sun is supposed to be like 20 degree up. 24.43 shadows are too short.to be true. 28.37 look the shadow, the sun is like 70 degree up. 39.00 the shadow is under the lander, the sun is over head. 41.03 the shadow is under the left over lander. sun is over head. 20.16 rock and people shadows are too short to be filmed on morning moon. 22.23 lander and man shadows are showing the sun is over head. 23.26 shadow is too short to be true. the moon is early morning, all shadows are very long. 26.17 the rocks and the guys have very short shadows, impossible at early morning on the moon. 29.37 the lander and the guy are under the noon sun. 29.47 the bag under the lander is waving in the wind. 15.57 look shadows all point to wrong direction. the flag is falling too. 1.23 to 1.43 why the shadow is under the buggy? the sun is above? 18.40 look their short shadows. should be very long shadows. it was early morning on the moon. 11.07 why those rocks all have very short shadows? 16.20 why their shadows are so shout? 17.36 why shadow is short and wrong direction? noon time on the moon? 21.37 moon lander has no shadow? 20.08 why they have short shadows? 22.53 look the short shadows of the lander and the guy. 8.58 why short shadow? 18.06 their shadows are too short for morning sun. 19.08 lander and the guy shadows are missing. 21.00 the shadow of the rock on the left shows the sun is about 45 degree up. too high for morning sun. 21.35 rock and guy shadows show the sun is about 60 degree up. impossible filmed at morning moon. 24.17 shadows are under lander, sun is over head. too fake. 24.24 listen to the guy. If you care, please suggest a pin. Enjoy the clown show if you are very depressed. |

For the last 30+ years and even today, astronomers are able to reflect a laser off this mirror and back to Earth to measure variations in the distance. That mirror had to be set up by human hands; it did not fly there on its own. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 70095735 THEY SAY its there. Anonymous Coward User ID: 72281925 Ireland 02/06/2017 02:38 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Nowhere. They didn't bring one of those since they had no need of it. You are aware that the ionosphere buggers up HF right? You are aware that UHF is largely unaffected by the ionosphere, right? You are aware that you are looking at a 20Kw transmitter as opposed to Apollo's 20 watts, right? That thing you posted is 1,000 times more powerful than Apollo's. You are aware how radio equipment size scales with output power, right? Of course you aren't. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 72281925 Ireland 02/07/2017 09:53 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | didn't they use HF during post landing recovery? or was that just ship to ship/chopper comms? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73847868 A little of both. HF was used for ship to ship/aircraft and ship to shore. The CM itself had no HF capability. It used unified S-band (UHF) and VHF. However, simply tying the channels together and relaying meant that effectively everyone could hear everyone else on whichever channel. I guess the CM used other peoples HF sets in a way. Here is the detail of what the CM actually had. [link to history.nasa.gov (secure)] Interestingly, Gemini did have HF. |

The Deplorable Astromut Senior Forum Moderator 02/10/2017 06:55 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | from shadow position to find the sun's position. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 59686777 from the sun's position to find the timing of the picture. if the timing is not correct, the picture is faked. if they only faked a little, it is ok, but they faked too much. I'm not lying. Try actually doing the math for once. Quoting: The Deplorable Astromut [link to www.hq.nasa.gov (secure)] This photo was taken at 163 hours 59 minutes 05 seconds into the flight of Apollo 15. Given a launch date and time of July 26, 1971, 13:34:00.6 UT, that means the photo was taken on August 2, 1971 at 9:33:05.6 UT. At that time, the sun should have been 38.2348 degrees above the horizon at an azimuth of 112.4502 degrees from the landing site of Apollo 15. We know the flag in the photo measured 3 feet by 5 feet. Using the 3 foot height of the flag itself, we find that the pole's visible length in the image measures about 8.5 feet. It's titled at an angle though, so its actual height above the ground is roughly 8.4 feet if we assume the photo is perfectly level. Given an expected shadow length of Height/tan(altitude of sun over horizon) we find that the shadow should be about 10.7 feet long. Again using the height of the flag itself in the photo as a reference (about 239 pixels by my measurement) I find that the shadow of the pole measures about 862 pixels or about 10.8 feet in the image. That's within a tenth of foot of the expected shadow length in spite of terrain variations and approximate methods for comparison. It adds up when you analyze it correctly. |
