Proposed North Dakota Law Seeks to Legalize Accidentally Running Over Protesters Who Block Roadways

This makes my day, I wrote letter in support of running these protestors over as I have said we have only one main road, and they keep blocking it like the idiots they are. Thank God I live this place.

Lawmakers in that state are set to vote Friday on a bill that would legalize accidentally running over protesters in the road, one of several actions in Republican-controlled states to discourage disruptive protests.

Rep. Keith Kempenich introduced the bill, which states that if a driver “unintentionally” causes injury or death to someone blocking traffic on a roadway, then the driver will not be liable for damages.

Kempenich said he was spurred to act after Dakota Access Pipeline protesters last year moved to block public roadways, scaring some of his constituents.

“It turned from a protest to basically terrorism on the roadways, and the bill got introduced for people to be able to drive down the roads without fear of running into somebody and having to be liable for them,” he told CNN.

It’s not just North Dakota that’s cracking down on protesters. Other communities that have endured multiple or prolonged protests are fighting back by trying to put similar laws on the books.

In recent weeks legislatures in Minnesota, Indiana and Iowa have moved to add laws specifically targeting roadway blocking. The proposed bills have dismayed the American Civil Liberties Union, which fears they would trample First Amendment rights.

Kempenich argued that any drivers who intentionally targeted protesters would still be prosecuted.

“If people stay off the roadway, it has nothing to do with you,” he said. “[But] if you’re on the roadway trying to intimidate some people, then you’ve got an issue.”

I would be agiant this, except for th fact I have seen video after video of crowds threatening drivers, damaging their vehicle,s, stopping ambulances,, stopping ppl going to work, ect. They did this to themselves and I refuse to feel bad for them anymore. I hate liberals so much right now I could scream . I have always cared about ppl and taken up for ppl, but I'm just at my wits end. Something has to be done to stop these crazy liberals.

Really , can you elevate your consciousness enough to really see what you are saying. I moved away from America because it is not home anymore three years ago. Everytime I even consider coming home I read stuff like this and realize what it is about America that I miss and why I wont come home.

America has lost its soul and compassion. There is no direction other than its all about me. There is no United States anymore. Do you actually know what a "united state".

It is a very dark time in America. Obama didn't do us any favors but this utter racism and raging anger of the angry white male has confirmed that Obamas plan was successful.

Now lets call a spade a spade here ok? This bullshit all started when black lives matter (only) took their protests to the roads and highways. Even after all the bad press for interfering with emergency services and everyday people trying to get to work they continued to do it. They didnt give a shit. I seen the effects of these assholes here in Boston when they chained themselves together and to a 55 gallon drum blocking our main highway into the city. Stopped traffic for over 3-4 hours. Fuck these people. So I am glad they are changing the law, u decide to interfere with me traveling and I have nothing to do with your issue, dont think you will make it my issue. I will politely ask you to let me through. Disrespect me, and do not move out of MY road then I will run your ass over,plain and simple as that.

You guys are celebrating the disintegration of your own laws. Martin Luther King marched on the Edmund Pettus Bridge with hundreds of other citizens in a civil rights demonstration. If this law passes how would the the courts distinguish between important protesters and rioters? What if in the near future citizens who hold the second amendment dear are protesting mandatory gun registry or weapon bans get run over by some leftist. You guys would have a very different opinion of things. So I suggest thinking before applauding nonsensical laws.
