Could we be witnessing a climatic shift rather than a global warming?
Enthusiasm for global-warming ensures that heatwaves make headlines, while contrary symptoms, such as this winter’s billion-dollar loss of Californian crops to unusual frost, are relegated to the business pages. The early arrival of migrant birds in spring provides colourful evidence for a recent warming of the northern lands. But did anyone tell you that in east Antarctica the Adélie penguins and Cape petrels are turning up at their spring nesting sites around nine days later than they did 50 years ago? While sea-ice has diminished in the Arctic since 1978, it has grown by 8% in the Southern Ocean. So one awkward question you can ask...is “Why is east Antarctica getting colder?” It makes no sense at all if carbon dioxide is driving global warming. The best measurements of global air temperatures come from American weather satellites, and they show wobbles but no overall change since 1999. There is emphatic evidence for an alternation of warm and cold periods, linked to solar activity and going on long before human industry was a possible factor. Compilations of weather satellite data show that cloudiness varies according to how many atomic particles are coming in from exploded stars. More cosmic rays, more clouds. Can we control, or even forecast, a climate ruled by the sun and the stars? |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 166378No... Many humans can't accept the fact that we are not the center of the universe and in 'The Grand Scheme Of Things' are insignificant...They feel the need to aggrandize themselves and the import of their mundane lives...They so want to believe that they have this magical power to control weather, other people, etc.... |

If such a process is taking place, this could be linked to the phenomenon of oceanwarming, instead of atmospheric warming. The Northpole being situated on water, would therefore be dependent on oceantemperature to an extent, beside the angle of solar radiation and winterabsence of sun. So increased oceanwarmth would increase arctic melt-off during the summer. The Antarctic is mainly on land and increased melt-off is along the coast with increased snow/ice inland, due to increased airhumidity from the oceans. The sun is ruled by the galactic plane, the sun rules the solar system, the magnet shield of earth rules the ionosphere, the ionosphere rules the jet stream, the jet stream rules the gulf stream. Try harnessing that lot. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 195088The 'bloody obvious' is that you feel the need to believe you are more important to the universe than you really are. I want mystical super-powers to change the weather the same as you. However, I am rational and know fullwell that my weed-whacker isn't warming the atmosphere as much as that big shiney thing in the sky during the day. |
