This MIT Deep Throat claims that harmonic (resonance?) vibration was why DWR shut down the new spillway’s first-ever release on April 10… Quoting: Anonymous Coward 64698495 after only ramping to 25,000 cubic feet of water per second. The screen cap here refers to LFN. LFN stands for Low Frequency Noise. LFN energy is the kind that can and does vibrate windows and doors if generated by, say, passing trucks or aircraft… LFN generated inside spillways is very, very bad. LFN creates shear forces and more. And in this case, LFN seems to have been generated by the flow of released water down #OrovilleDam’s chute—which means the spillway had been destroying itself…. Marty’s MIT Deep Throat claims three things. One, that LFN caused the spillway’s shutdown. Two, that the spillway’s frequency vibrations at different stations were recorded. Three, that a record of these recordings at the spillway’s stations is, for now, publicly accessible…. Because the piezoelectric-based transducers, sensors and actuators inside the spillway and also at other places in the dam are all monitored by a DWR subcontractor. The subcontractor’s name is Sensemetrics…. Sensemetrics keeps all its historical data from these instruments accessible via the cloud. In order to access this information however, you will need a working knowledge of computer code, like say JavaScript or Python…. I double-checked and apparently you, me or anyone can create a Sensemetrics account. Once you have an account, you can generate an API. With that API you may dig in and hunt for the record of piezoelectric-based instrument data inside the spillway….
