Here we go GLP, they are increasing the outflows finally!

Did they read this thread or did they realize this rain is the real deal??

[link to cdec.water.ca.gov (secure)]

A bit modest bump but still about 2,000 CFS more, maybe just the beginning..
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 60905062

What the hell are you talking about, they have not increased the outflows, inflows increased...
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77563121

Check the link buddy, scheduled outflows will be stepped up the next two days (at least)
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 60905062

LMAO, so on the 17th it is scheduled for 9500 yet last hour was 9,738???

Like I said...

Without the spillway working they can only hang out around 9,000 CFS. Also they can not pound the spillway due to damaging levees downstream. Plus rumors that the insurance company does not want to pay for the damaged spillway? IDK

Outflow from Oroville includes all releases from the Oroville Dam (i.e.: Hyatt, spillway, low flow outlet)

Well, according to the latest figures here;

[link to cdec.water.ca.gov]

They've had 1.46" of rain since last night.

NWS is saying 1.33" more before stopping briefly tomorrow, and then 1.48" between Saturday noon and Sunday night, and then more and more after that...including .3" more Monday into Tuesday.

[link to forecast.weather.gov (secure)]

Near saturation should be reached today, and all the rain on Sunday (or nearly all) should come into the dam...

I am guessing we are at 994-6' by Monday...

Then...

We shall see.

They still have a chance, IMHO.

Actually, the spillway is ALREADY FAILING
according to this report.... IMPORTANT NOTE: Scott Cahill, who is cited in this report is one of the premier EXPERTS on dams in the World! When he talks, folks better listen.

Complete failure at Oroville Dam
By Chriss Street

The $1.1 billion spent to repair Oroville Dam is failing as water is seeping through the rebuilt spillway threatens new mass evacuations over the risk of the dam collapsing.

According to national dam expert Scott Cahill of Watershed Services of Ohio, Oroville Dam is on the same failure track as in 2017, with visible water seepage trickling from the foot of the dam and dozens of points along the dam's principal spillway. Cahill warns that warming temperatures magnified by precipitation is a growing threat to the dam.

Some might find this video in which Mr. Cahill discusses the "blasting" done to "fix" the spillway area and why what they did was SO VERY DANGEROUS to the future of the dams structural safety.

The HRRR is showing scattered convective showers/ thunderstorms for most of the day for NorCal. It's looking likely that Oroville will get multiple rounds of convective waves moving through the area today.

If any of these convective lines, assuming they even form, stalls/ trains over the basin, we could see 894' by tomorrow morning.

Still, overall doom chances are low, for the very near short term.

Re: California's Lake Oroville Main Spillway Severly Damaged/Eroded. Oroville Dam's Recently Reconstructed Main Spillway Fundamentally Flawed
midwest sceptic said this yesterday:

"In 2017 I noted an 18 hour to 30 hour inbound PEAKING time (rain falling on SATURATED soil), which matches up nicely with his 2 day projection this time around (since upstream lakes are full and will need to release IMMEDIATELY)."

He was responding to my reference to the 2017 metabunk thread that said when upstream reservoirs are full we get the peak inflow about 2 days after the rainstorm.

Any rain yesterday is not at peak inflows yet. And the rain in the forecast goes out for days.

The ONLY way blasting should be allowed anywhere near the dam is for a wide gas pressure relief trench to be excavated between the location of the explosion and the dam. Without it, things get broken or things move. I speak from experience. When additional lanes of I-270 were built in the neighborhood of Dougherty Ferry Rod in St. Louis, MO the contractor set off a shot that moved a bridge 9 inches away from the blast, which was over 200' away and across the exit ramp. It finally took $250,000 and 4 Dwiwidag rock anchors installed to literally screw the bridge back onto place. I pity the man who thinks that the only way to solve a problem is with the application of high explosives. Engineers remedy things, and build things. They leave the explosives alone."

By the way...nobody has better engineering credentials than Dr Bea, and DWR just tossed him with a huff at their public meetings. There is no way they will listen to Cahill, none.

It sure is strange that they’re not using their badass new spillway, maybe they think the storm wo’nt quite fillerup??

I put the town of Belden, CA just 25 miles east of Oroville RIGHT ON THE FEATHER RIVER in my Apple weather app (because I am meeting some friends there tomorrow) anyway, Apple weather map sayit’s going to EVERY DAY fir the next 10 (TEN) days...

Anyone else seeing those leaks increase in size? On the mainspillway.

The run off looks much thicker and wider.

The small streams to the right. They look fuller then what I recall.

Anyone have any screen shot or saved image to compare?
