UH...NO...IT UH..STILL HAS THE 'GREEN SPOT'...WHERE IT WILL BREACH...WHICH IS WHY THEY R STILL CRANKING IT OUT..AHEAD OF THE RAINS...ILL BET THEY TRY TO KEEP IT GOING DOWN WHILE IT RAINS TOO...THEY JUST FIXED A SPILLWAY...DAT'S IT!!

THEY 'MAY' HAVE ALSO PATCHED THE SPOTS UNDER THE SPILLWAY UP CLOSE TO THE DAM WHERE IT 'HAD' TO BE LEAKING...OR LEACHING....

Levels? ... there was a cdec and redding one I believe ... memory tells me they stopped reporting or were delaying results. Whats the score on the webcam at the park? The controller still psycho? I remember this threads first pages and the hours spent following this. I had a feeling we would see this event as talked about way back then. Its like watching a long path of dominos falling and wondering when the final event you know is going to happen will happen.

Should of fixed those cracks during the 5 year drought...

Thus, a frozen Radial Gate Failure condition could lead to scouring erosion of the cobble rock inlet apron as it drops below the 830 foot cutoff elevation. Erosion turbulence of the Spillway inlet lip could begin a penetrating erosion at a deeper level to the foundation to the headworks. If any scouring erosion reaches any sections of the now known "highly weathered rock" or "highly erodible rock", a piping channel may develop to the other side of the headworks. Then the risk of a "v" breach would develop. If the turbulent erosive flow continues, the "v" breach could enlarge to the point of compromising the headworks and possibly beneath or adjacent to the upper main spillway. At this point, it becomes a condition of where it is described as "loss of crest control".

But read the whole thing. Those gates are 50 year old trouble waiting to happen. Really good article.

This below is an older interview with Scott Cahill. Same thing. They did a great job on the new lower spillway...but ignored the huge risk up top at the gates. Misplaced priority in rebuilding. Listen to the whole thing, it is excellent.

We're currently almost 200' below the 901 mark, yet they never did drain in below the 653 to fix the "spring" leak in the wall.
I've no concerns about them even having to use the gates this year, but it doesn't mean I feel any better about the dam wall and that corner.
I am beginning to think that whole thing last year really was a gold heist. At the same time, an "earthen" dam doesn't last forever, no matter what spillways and gates you throw in it.

Oroville Update Phase 1 DONE!!

It would seem to me that if they truly cared they would have cemented the inlet structure to prevent erosion and a possible breech if a gate failed in the open position.

So yes, one wonders what is really going on here.

The green spot was determined to be due to rainfall.

The worrying thing is the emergency spillway is now built way better than the dam itself should the big earthquake hit.

Well, they said it was a "natural spring", however Cahill and others said-- na-ugh... plus that far wall side on the other side of spillway.
It's an Earthen Dam, over 50 years old. Needs to be retired, will not withstand any substantial quake (some think that 2.4 the day b4 had an impact). Perhaps they are just trying to buy time to reorganize the "Water Project". It would take billions and billions to divert all those 9 upper dams somewhere else, all that stuff.
I think they've just agreed to sink 500 mil in for "looks" and to stabilize best they can and move on, deal with the breach when it happens someday.
