Not to be alarmist, but… Unusual seismic activity registering in and around #OrovilleDam in the past 48 hours or so. It may, or may not, have something to do with the unusually large catchment of water at present.

2) The world has had a ton of EQ in the last 24 hours so maybe somehow it is picking up on that much like Yellowstone echos larger quakes?

3) It could be reading settling and struggling within the dam as water works into new recent paths?

I suspect that in the next 30 days, DWR will casually announce that they shall be "testing" the Emergency Spillway. Only a test. No big deal. Standard procedure. Just making sure it works, you know. Nothing to worry about. Everything is fine.

Review Time- the Green Spot, and dire warnings from Dr Bea.

It has to be stressed: The seepage at the green spot through the earth dam is a serious problem. It has not been stabilized or grouted as far as we know. The spillway is separated from the earth dam by a rocky hill, and there is water moving through that hill, which is another problem. We also do not know if any of it was grouted, but it certainly needs more.

Read the quote in bold below from Dr Robert Bea. The dam can fail on a summer day with no rain and no spillway usage. The dam is not safe. This is one of the premier experts in the USA talking. If we make it to summer without using a spillway, the DAM CAN STILL FAIL.

*A UC Berkeley Engineering professor emeritus, one of the nation’s foremost forensic engineers, and the founder of Berkeley’s Center for Catastrophic Risk Management (CCRM), Bea had long been worried about the design and management of the dam.

You have to understand- it can fail anytime. It is not safe. DWR is ignoring the national expert on this, and not doing what needs to be done. There is more to this problem than using or not using the spillway. Nobody beneath can breath a sigh of relief if we make it to summer without using the new spillways.
