Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75611699 Are they using those as jacks of some sort to put pressure on a failing or cracking section? They don't appear to have buckets attached to lift anyone. Trying to open them. Seriously? Dear lord. Honestly I don’t take anything about this dam seriously because Only a Miracle is holding it together. And bubblegum! ;) |

Oroville Dam's Recently Reconstructed Main Spillway Fundamentally Flawed No. The gates have been leaking for years. We just never knew. Now we also know about serious ELF issues too. Who cares if it leaks when we need it to flow. AH ... but in it's infinite wisdom DWR now says they won't open the Main Spillway Gates UNTIL the lake hits 899'!! When the lake is hitting 899' EVERYBODY in Oroville should be on the road getting to higher ground (imo)!! Midwest Skeptic |

Oroville Dam's Recently Reconstructed Main Spillway Fundamentally Flawed Do you really think that they can get the gates fixed after 50 years of neglect, especially with all that pressure behind them before the inflows jump from the storms? Then, there are the issues with the main spillway and the cavitation damage. You mean the gates won't open right now? Can't they blow up a couple of the gates to keep whole dam from going down? That would flood Sacramento. |

Oroville Dam's Recently Reconstructed Main Spillway Fundamentally Flawed ... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77563121 Manlifts at the gates for several days now, porta potty on the spillway, massive storm bearing down lake almost full, and they are still not releasing. It's pretty evident to most that there is a serious issue with the gates... So once the gates are fixed everything back to normal? Do you really think that they can get the gates fixed after 50 years of neglect, especially with all that pressure behind them before the inflows jump from the storms? Then, there are the issues with the main spillway and the cavitation damage. You mean the gates won't open right now? Can't they blow up a couple of the gates to keep whole dam from going down? They would have to close them before intake gets too low and cuts away the gate structure. |

"Currently the DWR is using the Hyatt Powerplant to keep the lake levels even. At this point, there is no intention of using the spillway unless something causes the lake levels to go over the 900-foot mark. Mellon said factors out of their control, like Mother Nature, play a huge roll." |

Oroville Dam's Recently Reconstructed Main Spillway Fundamentally Flawed Here is tropical tidbits, total precipitation to the end of May. [link to www.tropicaltidbits.com (secure)] If you move your cursor over the map, Lake Oroville GPS coordinates are 39.56/121.45. Its a little black spot on the map....is that supposed to be a boat, or fish? Anyway, you can't miss it. The watershed is north and east. Look at that blotch. Looks like in the 6-8 inch range. |
