So when you say geographic, do you mean the earth will literally flip over or ... What?

However that is a good question.
The scientific answer of course is that the earth has no up or down.

There is no reference in the universe. The Sun is cruising at 200 km per second around the center of the galaxy, which itself has no up or down.

Oh and by the way, the speed of our milky way galaxy itself turns out to be an astounding 1.3 million miles per hour (2.1 million km/hr), in a direction which is hard to determine, because, ... well, there is no up or down out there either, and the universe is in perpetual expansion.

Thanks. That's hard for me to wrap my head around, especially since I only have five functioning bramegastudly manly manls remaining and I'm saving them for a special occasion. Seems to me though that we aren't just tumbling. I mean we would notice wouldn't we if north suddenly became south. Several years ago I had a very peculiar dream that I was seeing a shower of meteors striking the the earth and then felt as if I were picked up and flipped over and felt very disoriented. I've wondered if it would be like that. What might the consequences of what you described be if you know?

Yes you are correct. I pointed out in my post that the major information is the weakening magnetic field.
That weakening exactly means we are less and less protected from what is coming at us from space (notably radiation and sun bursts). And will have dramatic effect on us.
To be expected :
Major problems with electricity causing massive interuptions, major health hazards of radiation induced cancers and mutations for all lifeforms. These are the main concern...

The magnetic flip in itself is a slow process, and in the time it takes to entirely flip (you will not witness it in your lifetime), the North/South (+/-) magnetic field will be random, mobile and scattered (such as the illustration in the posted article).

The problems to navigation will be limited because we rarely use a compass any more.
However, science will need to solve the problem of TIME (what is time, and how does it advance) to effectively liberate universal navigation (but that is yet a complete other subject! -see the problem of time in space/time and relativity, requires a entirely different post).
